Clawed Frogs

Quite interested in setting up a tank to house the Clawed Frogs that have started popping up with more frequency.

What is the experience of those on the site?

What sort of filter would you recommend? Do we need a heater? Do we need a lid on the tank? Can we plant the tank?

Will they take food like superworms, mealworms, dew worms, etc?

I'd just like to inform myself a bit more before setting it up so as not to put the anmal at risk.

Thanks

Welcome to the Alberta Aquatica site. I have seen you on the ERAS site. Thes web pages should answer some of your questions. There is info on their needs and habitat.

Kept them off and on for about 25 years.

Any is good, but it will depend on the size of tank and number of frogs....I prefer canisters and sponges.

Do we need a heater?

Depends on your ambient room temperatures, but it is a good idea.

Do we need a lid on the tank?

I would...although leaving the water level a few inches below the lip is a good idea, it is not a guaranteed method of keeping them in.

Can we plant the tank?

With enough light and substrate, yes, but I would suggest plants such as Anubias, Bolbitis, Java fern, etc.

Will they take food like superworms, mealworms, dew worms, etc?

Depends on the individual frog, but generally, yes.
