Willfishguy
Heat, lots of heat, 30c heat. Heat. *edit* Regardless of the ailment, the first priority is to increase the temperature of the water. Lethargic, bloated, constipated Bettas almost always recover with high heat theropy. And the reason they do is because most Betta ailments are do to too cool of water living conditions; included is the fungal problems often seen in our winter season. Shai
Heat, lots of heat, 30c heat. Heat. Maybe if the betta has ich, sure. Bloating can be a sign of many things (but not necessarily ich). If the betta is constipated, feeding cooked, shelled peas and adjusting the regular feeding schedule is required. It could be an internal infection, internal parasite, or dropsy. Maybe the betta is just fat (though becoming fat overnight is unlikely). So, more information is needed to make a better diagnosis. What is the current temp of the water? How often are you feeding? What are you feeding? How often do you change the water and how much? What are the current water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)? Have you changed anything about the betta's home recently? What size is the tank the betta is in? In the meantime, I recommend increasing the frequency and amount of water changes. Try feeding a cooked, shelled pea (use tweezers to offer small pieces--the betta probably won't eat more than a quarter to half of the whole pea) and post back with more info. : ) Edited December 8, 2007 by Shai
rED O
Heat, lots of heat, 30c heat. Heat. :chair: you dont want to cook the guy. some pepole keep bettas in jars or bowles(witch is wrong!) and they dont have heat, so colder the water is the slower there heart rate is and they will be less active. have your tank set at 27, also what do you feed him and how much? I can assure you, 30c will not harm a Betta in any way. Infact, it's down right cozy for them.
BlackMumba
First recommendation - does the fish have salt like spots ? if so then raising the heat to 28 degrees is NOT a bad idea, using salt Ick does not like heat and salt these kill them. You would see a difference in the fish within 24 hours. Now for the bloating - is he constipated? if so feed shelled peas to him. If you have some primefix also put that in the recommedated dose... this works like a charm ... IF he is still having problems then you know it's something other then Ick or constipation... other remedies would be called for... These are a start I hope he feels better soon ... Stacey
I'm sorry for your loss. I lost a betta the same way, lethargic for a couple of weeks, then one day a little bloated. He passed away the next day.
