Becky
How many Synodontis Petricolas should be in there? Can I try other bottom feeders and what do you recommend? Eventually I will have 10 Yellow labs, 12 Pseudotropheus saulosi and 10 Metriaclima callainos if I can find them. Thanks, Becky
Vallisneria
I have 9 syno petricola in my 90g, along with 11 yellow labs, 3 Ps. Acei, 1 red empress, and 1 Pheno. I found they really start coming out more and being active when in a larger group. Mine are constantly out and about 24/7. So I'd recommend atleast getting a few more. stribbelldk
I agree. The more synos you have the more active they are. I think I got about 12 in my 90 gal. Some people say that it is hard to keep bristlenose plecos in a cichlid tank, they die on them, but I have 5 in mine and they are okay. That beening said, I wouldn't throw a small 1" in the tank. All of mine a 3"+ Derek
Boom
I agree too. Get at least a few more (3+). They love cruizing around together and it looks awesome IMO. I have 5 in my 55 and 3 in my 180 but am getting about 8 more for the 180. I think EVERY African tank needs syno's. I just love those little guys! firestorm
Synos are a great addition. 3 or more of them is the best way to go. I have 5 of them in a 20 gallon for now, which will be going into my 45 tanganyikan tank soon. Synodontis are also a great species for any tang tank as well. BN plecos are not the best thing for mbuna tanks because the fish tend to eat the plecos eyes out, and the BN's are typically too slow to get away. BN's make better peaceful tank mates. darkangel
I have 5 synos,5 bristlenose,3 zebra loaches, 2 yo-yo loaches, and a whole wack of cories in my community tank, 4 non intentional breeding bristlenose in my S/A tank, and 1 L-88 and 2 queen arabesque in my african tank. Lots of action in all 3 tanks.
