shmeg
Now what? I have two Oscars and a large pleco also in the tank. Does anyone have any pointers. Should I take the pleco out?
rED O
the jds will gard the eggs, no need to take the pleco out. what color are the eggs?
shmeg
Most of the eggs are brown but there are a dozen or so white ones. Thanks for the help.
fishclubgirl
I'm definitely no expert but I'd be getting the oscars out asap. My pair attempt to eat anything other than the big pleco including my fingers. As culling machines, they're scarily effective!!
Music_
Really depends on how large the tank is and how many fry you plan to keep/raise. If we are talking a 6ft tank, then the parents will be mostly able to defend the fry, you will lose some to the Oscars once the fry start free swimming. The size of your fish are somewhat important also. A small JD pair, as aggressive as they are, may not be as effective against two mature Oscars. fishclubgirl
Please let us know who wins; the JDs or the Oscars. I hope for the frys' sake that the JDs do!!
rED O
how big is the tank? how big are the oscars? I don't think theres a need to move the oscars out. The Jds will do a good job defending the eggs. They will gaurd the eggs with there life any updates?
shmeg
The JD's are fending everyone off and are now moving some of the eggs from the slate into a pit. One of the Ocars it a little banged up but nothing too serious. There is a lot of digging going on and there are holes everywhere. This is the JD's first attempt at breeding so it will be interesting to see the results. The tank is 90 gal 48x24x18 and the Oscars are 6-7".
