Waterfall Expansion Foam

Can someone shed some light on this stuff? I was reading another forum on this topic and an experienced builder (10+ years experience) said he never uses it because it doesn't seal anything. I just bought 2 cans ($40), have one course of stone laid down on my lower falls and 1 can is empty already. Do I really need it and if I do how should I use it properly?

That is correct. It is not used to seal anything. It it used to direct water over or around the rocks and fill voids. Used extensively in waterfall and stream building. Not in the ponds itself much. Water generally goes under many rocks that we would prefer it to go around or over. That is when it is used. You can run your falls and see where the water goes. If you want to change the direction of the water, turn the falls off and use the foam in the appropriate places.

edit:Have fun and don't get it on your clothing or skin. VERY hard to get off!!

Waterfall foam is only designed to direct flow, not to seal. I usually use about one full can per 10-15' of stream - that includes one 8"+ fall.
