BettaFishMommy
got an AC 70 recently and it came at a great price.... free! lol. only problem is that it was used for a long long time on a sw tank and i now want to clean it up to use on my fw planted tank that has snails in it, so i have to make dang sure all the salt is cleaned out of it. i've heard vinegar works well. what is the best way to get all the salt gone and make it safe for my shellkids? thanks all! Vallisneria
Soak it in some vinegar and then get scrubbing.
Ruadh
Don't bother trying to save the filter media, it's almost imposible to get the salt out. Another thing you can do to desolve the salt from the empty housing is hang it on the inside of a 5 gallon pail filled with strong vinegar solution and plug it in for a couple of hours, change the water and do it again. This will cut down on the scrubbing required.
BettaFishMommy
i wasn't going to use the media that was in it, and tossed it already. i never trust used media unless it comes from my own tanks. i have tons of extra sponge and biomax to use in it that is brand new and/or rinsed and dried from previous use in my tanks. thanks for the advice!
