  1. Thank you Sure makes the rug stinky but I can't clean it till I get all the stuff out of here. Thankfully it didn't go through the concrete floor to the suite below.
  2. I feel your pain! My 175 greeted me with a leak this morning. Everything is for sale now, posted in Equip for sale Rick
  3. According to Target, they sterilize the sand before they screen it and, I think, sand blasting sand is almost all the same grit in any given bag. They have a red garnet that I think I'll ask about. Thankx folks Rick
  4. Has anyone bought sand from Target in Morinville? I was thinking of getting a course blasting sand for my 175 when I set it up again. Blasting sand should be all one size grain with no 'fines' shouldn't it? What do you all think? Thankx Rick
  5. Welcome aboard Johnny Does this mean I can use my Little Johnny jokes now? Rick
  6. I looked up hydra and that's exactly what they are. Thank you Now I'm off to clean the tank better. All ways been scarred to vacuum for fear of sucking up the shrimp.
  7. I don't know where to put this so I'll ask here. I've got these strange little critters showing up in my shrimp tank. They are white and their bodies are tubular, less than 1/8 inch long. They have 5 "antenna" a good 1/2 inch long. I don't know if they are harmful and I haven'nt a clue where they came from. The tank has been up and running for 2 years. WTH!!!!!!!
  8. You have Gregg's Distributors there in Cowgary. They have Dow 732 Sealant. I paid $6 or so a tube.
  9. Thanks for asking It leaked again so I emptied it and I'm giving it lots and lots of time to dry out this time. I think maybe that was my trouble, there was water in the joint that stopped the silicone from sealing. The fish are OK so I'll wait till the middle of Sept. to try again.
  10. I think it's easier to use than the Vortex. It's self primeing so you don't have to play stupid games like the V. Of course, as with all good things, you can't buy it any more.
  11. That's correct, except for the pre-charge thing. I can't remember the brand name, I'm at work, but it has a jar that the powder is put in and a filter element that the powder charges, Easy peasy, just put 3 TBS in the jar, screw it on, hang the unit on the aquarium and turn it on I found a pic of mine. It's a "System I Diatom Pressure Filter" Works very well, sometimes the drive belt gets a little noisy, but it doesn't bother me and it's only for a couple of hours. Just let me know if you want to borrow it, Tim. You can get a 10oz. can of powder from Big Als.

  13. I think if you're going to live in Calgary you're beyond help .
  14. No such thing as a descent price on those things. I've got a diatom filter you can borrow. It'll just cost you what's left over from the pound your going to have to buy. How's that?
  15. Thankx,ya, it must have been something like that. Third times the charm, right?
  16. I use Dow Corning 732/black Got it at Gregg Distributors.
  17. I'll have to look when I get home
  18. I guess the next step is to get the fish back out of the tank. Thankx a bunch
  19. Well thank you, I was wondering about using two passes. Admittedly, I was going to go heavier on the first pass but what you say makes more sense. Have you ever used the silicone remover that DAP has out?
  20. Thankx for trying to help. I think this next time, I should just do one seam at a time and let it sit for a day before I do the next one. What do you think?
  21. Ya..........not so good I lost about half my fish through my own stupidity. I put too many in the one bin and I think they used up all the oxygen. Also, after re-sealing that stupid tank three times, it still leaks when it's full of water.. Six inches is all I can put in before the hydraulic pressure gets too great. There are absolutely no cracks so I must not be taking enough care, even though I cleaned the seams scrupulously. Next week I'll give it one more go.Stupid fish.......it's all their fault.
  22. From the Digital Journal http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/294337 Auckland - Scuba divers may commend the silence of the deep, but new research shows the underwater world is abuzz with the noise of chatting fish.
  23. Right on Thank you folks Now the fun starts
  24. I looked at my 175 this morning only to discover a one per second drip. Looks like the tank needs re-sealing........oh sigh! Is there a maximum length of time that fish will survive in rubbermaid tubs as long as there's filter, heater and air? I'm going to have to set up three, two for the fish and one for the plants, for as much as two weeks. What say you?
  25. Safeway, big box stores, any where that sells plants.
