A question that I have always wondered and now I might need to ship fish so am really curious how you do it?

I know how to pack them and get them ready for shipping but what do you do?

Put them in styrofoam container and just take it to a fedex or something?

Any help is appreciated, which companies transport live fish? How much does it normally cost?

Thanks

I use Canada Post and breather bags. Take a box, line it with styrofoam and then put in newspaper or some form of packing material. Don't feed the fish for 24 hours before. So far, my fish have been fine with second day delivery.

Depends on the weight, distance and whether or not, it's overnight or second day. Ranges from 20 dollars for 10-15 small fish from vancouver to 90 dollars for 55 bettas individually bagged from Ontario.

I always wondered too and quite expensive from the looks of it.

With a little math the costs can sometimes be justified

Example

400 CAC shrimp from Toronto

Cost $85.00

shipping $25.00

Thats 22 cents each as cost per shrimp

Thats 7 cents each to ship

total cost per shrimp = 27.5 cents

400 shrimp @ LFS

cost $ 5.95 each X400 = $2380.00

Depanding on availibilty and quantity it makes ( dollars ) and sense very quickly
