jay9228
Hello everyone, I've been doing a lot of reading here on your fantastic site since I setup my first fw tank last November, decided it was a good time to register and join you wonderful folks. I have defiantly caught the fish keeping bug, and have been doing not too bad thanks to all the great information available here! I am currently planning out what will be my third tank, a bit ahead of schedule but I saw that Source Aquatics down near Calgary has an awesome deal on 180 gallon tanks with metal stand, so I think I am going to setting up a biggie sooner than I thought. I'm sure many questions will be coming soon. I found Source Aquatics through this site, I believe they are a site sponsor? Just looking to see if anyone has any first hand experience with them and any thoughts you folks might have would be appreciated. Their normal aquarium prices are amazing compared to the local big stores, I am just hoping this does not result in compromised quality. It's still alot to spend on a tank but at there special prices hard not to wonder if there is a good reason for the difference. Look forward to chatting and sharing my fishy experiences! Cheers, Jason

jay9228
Hey thanks for the welcomes everyone! I appriciate the insight into the tanks JLake, I'm fairly certain i'm going to get that one. Currently, 45 gal 5 Clown loaches 2 - 2.5" 6 Tiger barbs 1.5" 5 Pristella tetra 1.5 - 2" 2 Bristlenose 1.5" 20 gal 3 Dwarf frogs 1.5" 2 Guppies My clowns are my fav guys, and I want to get more of them and have a good size shoal. I want to set up the 180 as a river tank with unidirectional flow. Lots of caves and rocks, some driftwood and other assorted ornaments. I will likely keep the 180 fish only like my current tanks are. I plan on setting up a sump in the stand hopefully to simply maintenence. I've also been researching the idea of adding a refugium, I like the idea of having plants to help with water quality, but know also the clowns will tear them up and dont want to deal with that in the main tank. I havent decided if it will be hidden underneath and part of the sump or I was thinking it would be nice to use it as a separate display tank. Lots to think about haha Well I guess that's all for now, Jason
jay9228
Hello again everyone, just a quick update.. I was exchanging e-mails back and forth with Source Aquatics getting the details down for the 180 I was going to order. Then a friend called and directed me to an add on Kijiji, went and checked it out and ended up moving a used 230 gallon Aquarium Illusions tank, complete with stand, 75 gal sump, Magdrive 24 pump, 1000W digital heater, and a bunch of other goodies. It's a fair bit bigger than what I was planning but sits on the same 6'x2' footprint, just 6 inches taller so why not.. The price was too good to turn away from also. Excuse the mess, this all happened in two days so I didn't have much time to make room.. The sump is sitting up on the stand and the tank is upside down where my dining room table should be.. That's my 45gal over on the bookstand to the right. Going to take my time setting this all up, much research and planning beforehand of course. I'm sure that will include many questions for all the good folks here. Once I am ready to start putting things together I will start a fresh thread for the tank build. Bandi
:welcome: Looks like a take I have been looking for. Wonder how I missed it on Kijiji! All the best with the set up. How lots of fun! I have a 18 inch clown knife fish I need to rehome and he would fit real nice in your new tank...hint hint.
jay9228
Hmmm 18" clown knife eh? I think that might be a wee bit more than I'm ready to take on but thanks tho! If you, or anyone else is looking for larger tanks, be sure to check this one out.. Just saw it posted in the buy/sell area. Looks like good deals, wish I had more room! http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=30410 Cheers - Jay
