phoenixn7g
Someone told me the mopani might a) break apart in low brakich or b)release dangerous meatls into my water. Anyoneknoe if there is any truth to this? I will be boiling the wood a while before it goes into the tank
fatpuffer
it my experience, the driftwood tend to breakdown faster in the brackish condition. It just made my tank look murky. One I've taken it out...everything went back to normal. Js
gobies et al
I had mopani in my brackish tank for 5+ years. The Nerites and the Amano's kept up with the wood's very slow disintegration. Wood beneath the sand layer also disintegrated slowly but that would be cleaned out when I vacuumed the sand. I never had problems that I was aware of with metals leaching out. Then again I did weekly water changes and I did have some carbon matting in my filter. fatpuffer
That is one thing I did not have in my tank...amanos and nerites. I had puffers so invert tankmates was out. That is definately worth a shot if you do not have aggresive fish that would hunt the invert. Jonah
phoenixn7g
Thanks gobies et al! I figured the dragons would extremely enjoy the mopani, and I will be getting amanos and some nerites!
