MTAR
While doing a water change I noticed this tiny little white worm, the diameter of thread and about 5-8 mm in length wiggling and floating to the bottom of the (fw)tank.... does anyone know what that could be?? I was thinking mosquito larvae. thank you Eric
Krystle
planaria maybe? http://www.aquariumcorner.com/planaria.htm
wandj
I know what you're talking about. I have the same worms. Look like the diameter of a thin hair. I see a huge amount of them get sucked up when I siphon with my vac cleaner, so they generally seem to live in the gravel. But in a glass bottom tank, they float around. They are not planaria. Planaria are more teardrop shaped and climb on the glass...usually best seen first light. I'm not sure what these free-floating worms are either, but I heard they are harmless. If you have fry, they will eat them. Anyone else out there have a name and better description?
RD.
Sounds like Nematodes. Both planaria and nematodes feed on organic matter & excessive nutrients, but are harmless.
