rompergoddess
Well, here I go again, with the same darn fish!! I have a fancy lyretail swordtail, female, who keeps getting fin rot and fungus on the ends of her tail. I was wondering if the Tetra Fungus Guard would be okay to use in a planted 20 gallon tank, with Fluval substrate. I use the HOB aquaclear 50 filter. The tank has three other swordtails, one betta, and four dwarf frogs (not clawed). Will this help, or hurt my babies and the plants in the tank, or will it help? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanking you in advance, --Ronni
jewels
Chondrococcus columnaris has similar symptoms. It is a bacteria. Therein lies the danger. Water change Water change Water change
Vallisneria
The fin rot is probably due to her fins being nipped. So its best to solve the nipping issue, keep the water super clean and let her fins heal up. I've found that unless the fungus/fin rot is severe its best to not use medication. Just keep her from being picked on and give her clean water. Doctors orders - Rest and clean water
rompergoddess
thanks to you all for the info, will do water change right now!!! I do water changes weekly, but with the new fluval substrate, it isn't easy to vacuum
Vallisneria
What are the sexes of your other swords? With 4 swords and a betta in a 20g there is lots of chances for fin nipping. Just keep an eye out to see if she is getting picked on because unless you stop that her fins will never have a chance to heal.
