  1. what about using spixi snails, they don't harm the shrimp, but love to eat other snails, and such....just a thought
  2. Even though she's a plant nommer, I love my Marisa! She zips around the tank, antennae swinging happily, while munching away on something rare, or difficult to grow...hmm.....nope, still love her the best. She was tiny when I bought her and now she is a whopper of a gal!
  3. Isn't that what killed Steve Irwin? I would think that depending on the type of stingray, would that not denote what type of venom it would have?
  4. Well, a friend and I went to Pet Expo a couple of weeks ago, and jokingly said, "lets put our name in the draw for the 55 gallon tank from Big Al's, and if I win, you can have it.....She won and I now have a huge tank in the box, on my tiny living room floor...... So, I was wondering if anyone out there has a stand that they would be willing to part with? I would like to tear down my 33 long and replace it with the 55, but the stand we built, is waaaay too small...... Thanks, in advance, ~~R
  5. My female BN seems rather chubby in the belly, and I have been observing white "air bubbles" cruising around (and I do mean cruising) in her belly. They are really moving, and they are pressing against her skin, and it is very disturbing.... I have never seen this before. Her nether region is swollen and pink, (she is an albino) This just started up about three days ago, and I thought maybe she was gravid, but I am not thinking so now. Any ideas? God, please don't let it be bloat..... I read up on it via the internet, not a nice way to go. I feed both my male and female BN very well, with a nice variety of fresh/frozen and dried foods for plecs. I do weekly water changes, of aprox. 50 %, and the tank is heavily planted. Fingers crossed...
  6. I was just at a LFS and saw a 2.5 inch albino Bristlenose catfish, and the price tag read $49.99! WHAT??? I asked the sales clerk why it was so expensive, and her reasoning was that it was "albino, and a bristlenose as well". Dear Lord!! A friend bought one from an LFS, and paid $9.99! Wow, out to lunch pricing or what?
  7. Thanks Val! just don't want my orange tylo to eat the new plants...and thanks again!
  8. So, can anyone tell me from personal experience, if my little orange rabbit snail is the culprit for mowed plant material in the tank? There seems to be conflicting information on the web....big surprise there LOL. Thanks!

  10. Underwater gardening is great for us Canadians! I highly recommend it! Yes, start with easy plants with low to medium light requirements. It makes it easier on you, when you do. The internet is a font of information, as is this community. Good luck to you in your new underwater gardening project!
  11. Awesome! His shrimp are great little go-getters...and they color up so nice!
  12. There is a product called "No Planaria" within the shrimp end of things in the lfs, I saw it on youtube...
  13. Awww, congratulations! Mine are doing the same thing Alot!!! They sure are funny to watch. And the babies are fearless!
  14. Ultimately, these lfs should take the shipment, put it in quarintine, and should be taking it up with their suppliers, and demanding their money back, and NOT using the offending supplier again. That would definately slow down the problem. I, as a customer, am shopping in their establishment, paying top dollar and expecting to recieve healthy fish. The question of free meds, or notifying potential customers is just ridiculous. The oweness needs to be on the store, to do the right thing, and deal with their suppliers to make sure that they are recieving healthy, parasite-free fish.
  15. suggestion: use a soft/pliable aquarium-safe silicone bead around the three sides to "fill in" any small gaps, and use a power head to keep up the water flow....
  16. I have a micro-species ten gallon set up, which has four ember tetras, and four pygmy cories, and about twenty cherry shrimp. I have just noticed some hydra have hitched a ride on new plants....dang it! I would like to know if anyone has dealt with this problem, and how, or if I should be worried....I have researched on the web...but lots of conflicting information on whether or not hydra are dangerous to shimplets, and shrimp in general. Also, this is a heavily planted tank...so, vacuuming the substrate is near impossible. ~~Any advice would be helpful.
  17. Wow! Thank you all for your advice! I finally have some hope here. I have been doing my homework with the web...but alot of confusing information, and at times, contradictory. So nice to have advice from people who have actually done this... Thank you again! ~~Ronni
  18. Does anyone out there know where I might find Red Clay for the substrate in my dirted tanks? Thanks for any information you might have on the subject. ~~R
  19. There is PJ's Pets in Wem they usually have plants in tubs and also Aquarium Central at 12006-111Avenue that have great plants too. (better selection than PJ's) www.aquariumcentral.ca
  20. If you find out where to find this plant, could you please let me know too?
  21. Hi All! I purchased two of these little tanks last wknd at a garage sale, but didn't realize that they were missing the power adapters for the built in led lamps. Anyone have ideas on where I might find said power adapter cords? I tried the Tetra site, but they don't have replacement parts for this tank model. So any ideas would be uber helpful! Thanks for any help, ~~R
  22. try removing all of the angels, and rearrange the tank completely, then reintroduce all the angels together, at one go. Read about this method, but haven't tried it. might work!
  23. I empty my water changes into the flower beds, and it works great!!! Walking the filter canister out the door, priceless!!! Will be doing that from now on!
