Znaika
Most of stones that you have on the picture have high limestone content. They will harden your water even more than our water already is. Unless that's what you need, of course... jbenchzer
thank you for the substrate idea. have been using gravel from the big stores and find it expensive for the 2 55 gallon i have now. will change it over soon.
Guppiesandshrimp
I have sand in my ten gallon and all my snails seem to hate it. ( mystery snails and an apple snail). I kinda switched them out to see if anyone of them would enjoy it but they pretty much just closed their shells. Any ideas on snails that will like being in a sand aquarium? Abby
If you have a sand substrate, Malaysian Trumpet Snails are ( in my opinion) a near necessity. They will shift the sand around at night and keep it from forming air pockets which could release some really bad bacteria (and a horrific stench!). Just be warned, MTS's are live bearers and WILL reproduce as long as a steady food source is available. In saying this, they are beneficial and won't eat live plants...I have an uncountable number of them in my 75 gallon and it's not a problem. They really come out at night; during the day you'll see some but at night they do their thing. However, If you're looking for a larger snail, Rabbit Snails & Zebra Nerite's do well in my sand tanks.
