thesmallestfry Posted July 23, 2012 Report Share Posted July 23, 2012 Our Arowana is terrified of everything! She went from eating 4 blocks a day to barely one. We have a Pleco who's badly 2 inches long and she won't go near it anymore since we moved her. She tries to jump out of the water and smashes herself into the glass. tomuhs Posted July 23, 2012 Report Share Posted July 23, 2012 Hmm, if its a chipped scale, could be due to rapid change in PH but from what it sounds like, it could also be because she is jumping and bruising herself. Cheers It's been about 2 weeks since we moved her and she doesn't seem to be getting any better, we had the water tested and was told everything was great. But she's still super agitated. Some fish get very stressed if they are in a high traffic part of your home, constant noise and movement around them drives them crazy if they cannot hide. Finally the natural instinct of fish is to hide from potential predators. If your fish is swimming fast around the tank and trying to jump, it is obviously under a lot of stress and cannot find a place it considers safe to hide. Good point; is the arowana only getting spooked when you are near the tank or generally skittish all the time? Would you be able to list the tank mates that it has? Do you leave a night light on for the fish? All the time and only a pleco at the moment and no we don't have a night light for her anymore, is there any ways toget her comfortable? For a week or so, and then remove 4" of paper every other day or so until all the paper is gone. Just a thought, that is what I did for some really skittish fish, but they were only 5 inches long... Quetzalcoatl Posted July 25, 2012 Report Share Posted July 25, 2012 In my tank I keep floating water lettuce and very large gigantea vallisnerias, Therefore the light under the plants is dim and the fish like it like that. The Vals create a large perfect hiding spot under water. Also I live alone so there is not too much traffic at my home.
