Two Suicide Attempts During Hc Trimming

I trimmed my HC today. Turned off the sump pump, got in there with my little scissors and trimmed for 20 minutes or so like I did last time. For some reason two of my 7 emerald eye rasboras took heavy offence to me trimming the HC and decided to jump while I was netting up the HC bits. I didn't even notice the first one jump. I caught the second one jumping and quickly went to pick it up off the hard wood and found the first jumper. Once I got them back in the tank one was okay, the earlier one was not. I tried to resuscitate him by pumping his belly and he started to try to breathe but didn't end up making it.

Has this ever happened to you guys? If so, how do you keep em in the tank?

Drain a couple gallons before trimming,so the water level is a little lower.

After trimming do your normal water change and clean up th trimmings.

Rasboras are skiddish fish, when scared they might jump.

I have some harlequin rasboras that jump out of the water when I add food every day because they are so excited.(not out of the tank, but above the water)
