Milan
My Sagittaria is propagating by sending numerous runners across the substrate. Some of the runners from the mother plant have already spawned several babies along the runner which already sent their roots into the substrate. They are like being on a string, attached to the mother. Now, the question that comes to my mind is should I cut the runner off and detach them from the mother, or leave as is? It may sound silly, but is it possible that mother is actually sucking the nutrients away from it's offspring and thus preventing them from growing fast? I know there are no scissors in the nature to do this, but would a human intervention of this sort actually be beneficial?
Garhan
I have always left mine attached. The exception is when I thin out the growth or wish to move plants to another area.
Milan
OK, I'll leave them too. The only thing I do with the runners, I "drive" them in the direction I want them to go .. if possible.
