Clam At Work

Cool! Always wanted a clam. But I heard they don't do well in fish tanks, they starve quickly.

How long have you had yours? Do you feed him separately (with green water or whatever)?

I did have 2 green clams in the 180 (3 and 4 inches) but I found out later that the there wasn't enough nutrients, food particles in the water for two clams and the smaller one starved to death. About 8 month ago the larger one buried deep in the substrate and never came back up. I think it was because of my auto water change system (roughly 60 gallons a week) left max Nitrates 2.5 ppm. The plants were consuming everything else as well as their ferts leaving nothing for the clam. If the water nitrates were around 7 to 10 ppm and a little extra food waste he would have survived.
