elf_poop
Is Styrofoam toxic in a 80F planted with fish tank? If not Styrofoam, what would you recommend that is not heavy and can fill spaces? (bubble wrap?) I am attempting to make an elevation to put slate on. I want the appearance of height without having to add a whole bunch of substrate underneath to create it.
FunkSolid
Polystyrene is very stable and is generally understood as non-biodegradable, hence the environmental concerns for it. The chemistry and the number of people using it in their tanks points me to a "safe" conclusion. It makes great bonds when it polymerizes and it simply does not break down in our atmosphere and water / soil conditions and 80F temperatures. The King of DIY on the YouTubes uses it a lot, and the number of subscribers he has puts him under a lot of scrutiny, and he still uses it :-) Hope that helps
