dunl
So Albert, besides BTA's and fish-eating green carpet anemones (which I ahve to admit, look INCREDIBLY cool), what other anemones are readily available out there, and what level of experience is needed for these? albert_dao
Ignore all of them. They are mostly impossible to keep long term (past six months). Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. There's a difference between luck and proper husbandry. As far as I'm concerned, there's only two ornamental anemones in the hobby, the BTA and the carpet. dunl
So nothing except these two? Wow. Thought there'd be more.
albert_dao
Pretty much. Everything else has a pretty dismal long-term survival record.
dunl
Okay, next question....how do you keep a green carpet anemone, without it deviouring everything in the tank?
albert_dao
Easy, alone.
dunl
So, a solitary creature eh? That rules that one out - I've never been a fan of wet pets.
muck
Pretty much. Everything else has a pretty dismal long-term survival record. or grows to big for most hobbiests tanks..
dunl
So everything I look at says that green carpets will host clownfish...and clownfish would keep other inhabitants away from the anemone most of the time, right?
albert_dao
Depends on the species and maturity. Maroons will pretty much herd everything regardless of whether they have an anemone or not, while occelaris/perculas won't have any aggressive behavior until they are at least 3" long. dunl
So it would be possible to keep maroons with a green carpet, and possibly some other species?
albert_dao
In your tank, you're pretty much limited to one species. And if anyone wants to say otherwise, I shall strike them dead.
muck
Yep.. carpets can grow to 2 feet across..!! Better to stick with a nice RBTA. I bet Albert's got a few kickin' around somewhere.. :hey:
albert_dao
.. I have ONE. And I'm keeping it, Ha! Ha!
dunl
I wasn't thinking about putting one in my tank, just curious. If green carpet anemones are found in the hobby, I just figured people must be keeping them with more than just by themself.
