Dave
I like a nice deep(3+ inches) substrate for root feeders like crypts, but where is the tradeoff? You can't do a thurough vacuum on a fully planted tank. Do you just pack the tank full of trumpet snails and keep them at bay by hand? windeindoiel
That's the reason I have trumpet snails, but I'm really not sure if they help or not, this is just the guess I made. I suspect they're uprooting plants though so when I transfer my tank over I might not include them.
jvision
MTS are fantastic for those of us who like deep substrates in our planted tanks! Although, they make it impossible to keep any kind of slope for very long (keep shifting the gravel around), they do keep the tank from going anaerobic. Dave
hoping to keep the aquascaped slope with the aid of strategically placed rocks ... ie retaining wall
jvision
hoping to keep the aquascaped slope with the aid of strategically placed rocks ... ie retaining wall Yeah.... Good luck w. that. :P I actually used Garden Edging to keep the back corners at about 5" for my big swords & Crypts. It did take 'em about 8 months, but the MTS finally got it all level by pushing the gravel as they went UNDER the edging!
