Paul & Lana
My FIL built us a topper for our big tank, and it looks great. I've noticed though that there is mold growing on the inside of it. We keep the tank covered because of the crayfish, so it's pretty warm and humid. Anything we can do to treat the wood so there isn't a mold issue? Thanks!
Toirtis
Was the wood not stained and sealed? Do you have a glass top on the tank?
Paul & Lana
The wood was stained and I'm assuming sealed, knowing my father in law. We have a glass top on as well but of course it's not tightly sealed.
Toirtis
Mold on a sealed wood top is uncommon....what does the mold look like?
Big Red 265.
One suggestion would be to install a vent on one end and a small fan on the other. This would prevent moisture from building up regardless of the finish on the wood.
Vapor
If a fan isn't viable try drilling a few holes in the back to let more air move around.
Paul & Lana
We'll see what we can do when we take it off this weekend, maybe we'll replace the solid wood covers with mesh or something. Or move the crayfish into the smaller tank and leave the boards off... Thanks!
