  1. Just curious. I moved to Edmonton six years ago and want to know if Riverfront and Golds are in the same locations they were in back then? Thanks
  2. I would just like to know if there is any way to change the city and area that I am a member of. I lived in Calgary for years and joined AA while I was still in Calgary. Now I live in Sherwood Park and have some items listed in the buy/sell. The problem is that people keep getting confused as to where I am located. I changed my location in my profile and say the location in my post but I am still showing Calgary & area member with my name, Thus the confusion. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Kevin
  3. One suggestion would be to install a vent on one end and a small fan on the other. This would prevent moisture from building up regardless of the finish on the wood.
  4. It looks like I'm best to poke around town and see if i can find a 10lb sack of the Vortex brand powder. If I can't find any around here, I can always buy online. Thanks for the input.
  5. I picket up a Vortex diatom filter the other week. It dose a great job but is a bit of a pain turning it on and off because it is not intended to be run continuously and the powder clogs quickly which brings my to my question. Are there any SAFE pool filter powders that I can use? If so, which ones and where can I get them? Thanks Kevin

  7. GE silicone I windows and doors NOT tub and tile. The tub and tile stuff has antifungal agents that will kill your fish.
  8. A 180 has approx. 1584lbs of water in it and about 400lbs of glass depending on the thickness. I moved my new tank (approx 400lbs) with me on one end (I'm a big guy) and 3 little Asian friends of mine on the other end. It was a gong show. We used a dolly which realy helped but we had to take it off to go around a corner in the stairs, from then on 2 of the guys lifted the top over the lip on the stairs and I heaved it up one stair at a time sliding it on its side. Never do I want to do that again. When I move the tank in the future I will get 3 other BIG guys to help me. Doing a move like that with little people or women is a bad idea. I should note that suction cups are a good idea and that 2 big guys can move a big tank if there are no stairs involved.
  9. I use a lot of silicone building decor for a couple of local shops and over time I have found that 24hr is good enough. Silicone will finish curing even under water and the amount of acitic acid that is released after the first 24hr is so small it should not harm your fish. Having said that, I still prefer to allow it to cure for a few days if I have the time because it adds that extra bit of confidence that all will be well (even though I know I'm fine after 24hr).
  10. On the down side, a canister type filter of any make is much more expensive, requires the use of an air pump (if you do not break the surface tension of the water you get little O2 getting in), and they are harder to maintain. I currently have a fluval 404 and 403 for sale because I prefer to use AC500's. They are cheaper and easyer to maintain. On the other hand, they do make more noise.
  11. The clock is displaying a messed up time for me
  12. I used spruce 2x4's with pine paneling to cover it for a 90gal tank with no problems at all. All I can say is that wood is fine so long as your not allways getting it wet. A little water is not going to hurt. Personally, I try and keep the water in the tank not on the stand
  13. If your on a budget get a tank used (I have one for sale) or go to Golds and get one. Build your stand from materials found in Home Depot and just use glass tops untill you can build or purchase a hood. As far as filters go, save your money. Stick with a couple of AC500's. They will provide great filtration for a fraction of the cost of canister filters. And what ever you do, stay away from Big Als when your buying equipment unless it is on sale. Golds on 17th Ave SE is usualy the cheapest place. Just tell Dennis what you want and if he doesn't have it he will get it. Just my thoughts
  14. cool. It's amazing that they can live in an environment that is so acidic
