Becky
Someone in town is selling an old 33 gal with wood stand, glass tops, a crappy light, a Fluval 201 (I have no idea how to use one), an AC 301 powerhead, and various fake plants and gravel (the fugly kind). How much should I offer? Thanks, Beck

Tanker
Ball park would be around the $75 - $120 ish... depends on the tank mostly and it's condition, as well as the stand (homebuilt is worth nothing, store bought is worth 'something') Crappy lights are a dime a dozen, and the glass tops are a nice addition, worth more if hinged, less if sliders. Flival 201 is barely adequate for that size of tank IMO, but it's worth about $20 used with all hoses and attachments. So to break it out: Tank: $20 - $40 Stand: < $40 Filter: <$20 Tops: <$5 Light: < $20 Powerhead: < $20 Rest of the crap: worthless to you if you don't want it. Tell them you're tossing it if they include it. Might get the price down for you. Also makes tanks DAMN heavy to move... so it ups the PITA factor for you. We've all seen setups like this go for $75, and we've all seen them offered for sale for $200+... the biggest thing you need to ask yourself is "What is it worth to you, to have it" Considering that you can buy a brand new 33G for $60, a used 304 for $50, and build a stand for about $5 worth of 2x4s and some screws. If you think you're going to pay too much, just don't ever tell anyone what you paid!
