  1. yes they are tough to get but I belive it is possible. I have done some research on them and I get conflicting storys...... some say they are mean as hell while others say their aggression is overrated......but then what are they comparing them with???? Would the likes of feastaes, red devils, odo's, etc be out of their league???? Thanxs
  2. Hi there... I would like to start a tank 8ftx2ftx2ft and have gold saums, friedrichshalli and cubans in it. Say six small fish of each. I belive the gold saums and friedrichshallis would get along but I'm not sure about the cubans. Do you think the cubans should be with more aggresive cichlids???
  3. Ya they do have an amazing set ups down there... I would call the guy and ask him what time would be good for me to drop in........then I would drive to the mall (with my fish in tow, in 5gal buckets) ....the ramp to go under the mall is between the hotel & waterpark.........I would buzz the intercom and this very large door opened then I drove down this long ramp and eventually I found his office......then we would start our trading...there was never any money exchange....just trading.....they had alot of red devils and some festae at the time....... This was about 10years ago....I am not sure if it would be that easy, today....with security and all.... but it sure would be good to have a contact like that for members to get rid of large fish if they didn't have the room anymore at home......... When I get time I'll see if I can get a hold of anybody but I think a senior rep. from the club would have more pull than me..........talk later......
  4. I know it looks like that from the angle of the pic's. I removed some caves/rocks from the tank for cleaning and my main feeding bay is where they come when there is a change in the tank. It is a 600gal tank (8X6X2) also once pairs started to form I would drive to W.E.M. and do some trading or donating to them(the extras)........ underneath the mall , very impressive under there. This club should set up a tour (for free) with the mall..... I did it on my own..... contiuisly hasseling the person in charge of the underwater world until I finally was accepted........ Any way I had to always have at least 6 of each species to get breeding pairs.... I would not do africans again, yet they did serve as dithers... just my preference.... Sometimes they would keep my fish.... like my 10inch bifaciatum... which I seen 3 months later and regreted trading him in ( they have small tanks set up down there to) and on the other hand when I brought my extra red devils to them ..... Well I had to watch them been thrown into the shark tank....RIP....The filtration system was amazing.... You say that tank was overcrowded and I do agree but I never lost one fish!!!!!!!! Anyway who do we talk to .......to call W.E.M. and set up a tour of the under mall tanks???? It's amazing...buddy told me to jump out on a large rock... I did .... next a red tail cat (must of been 5 ft) jumped onto the rock ...its head landing at my feet... begging for food ..................AMAZING........... had to go to the washroom after that............. Nandosis what do you think??????? For all members!!!!!...................................
  5. 6. Thanks for the replies; I was going to ask someone but there were alot of people in the store , the owner was very busy and I was in a hurry. I think it is the same as the fish in the photo you sent. Thanks I never knew they were that nice looking. what is their temperment like? Do you think they could hold their ground in a large tank with the likes of festaes, red devils, odo's, etc?????
  7. hi everyone. I happened to be in calgary today and stopped off at golds aquarium. They had a tank there with pike cichlids, gorgeous synspilum, blue texas and another spiecies in the same tank. The other spiecies I belive were motas, but looking at more picks on the net I,m not sure, could be friedricksthalli or loisellei. They were gorgeous, a deep yellow color (intense) especially the 2 inch one. I didn't think regular motas had such an intense color., If any one happened to see these, could you let me know your opinion. Thanks...... P.S. they also had some cubans which were not for sale, part of breeding stock.Different tank.
  8. Thanks..... I had to sell everthing because I had to move out of the province (work related) but now that I'm back I am slowly building up my tanks again.... but my 1000 gal tank is going to take some time to create!!!! I'll keep you posted..
  9. Hi everone , Holiday greetings to all!!! I used to have a 240gal tank with varies cichlids in it. One day I acquired an 8in black belt and added him to the tank. I had an 8in synspilum already in the tank so I thought they might get along ...........man was I wrong.... the two fish went at it almost immediatly and even thou the synspilum put up a good fight at first, it wasn't long before the black belt showed his true power. I had to seperate them right away, so the synspilum wouln't get killed. The black belt even confronted my festae for a while. Anyway I just thought I would share my experience that black belts are one mean, tough fish..... I've added some pics; http://s124.photobucket.com/albums/p21/ter...nt=scan0005.jpg 240 gallon tank
  10. Gorgous fish!!!!!! Is there certain pet stores or direct from the breeder that you would recomend? I'm doing my research so that when the time comes I'll know where to purchase from. Thanks Ever think of trying to breed your aro?
  11. NICE ARO!!!!! How big is he? Do you know which breeder he came from?? I'm hoping to get one or more some day and I've read that " Panda aquatics " or "Dragon Fish industries" are the most reputable breeders. what do you think?
  12. Hey there, I see that everyone has entered what they have, sad to say for now I can only enter what I've had!! :boxed: Silver aro, clown knife, stergeon!!These guys are unique but need cold water , They come right up to you when you feed them, they do sumersaults in the tank all the time.... but they get bigger than a red tail cat yet they are always friendly to their owner, needs a pond!! check them out!! kinda cute, even when big!!), Red terrors ,my male started his hump at 6 inches!!!! He had alot of females to choose from but he had to compete with a butierkofrie for territory. LIST:::: aros, knife, stergeons, red tail cats, plecos, feastes, green terrors, venustus, dolphin(african), oscars, jaguars, buterkofries, trimacs, devils,uro..(false red terrors), Chocolates, texas, salvini, dempsey(never a blue), bifasciatum, synspilun, leporinies, etc, etc,
