  1. Wow..... That is beautiful!!!!
  2. Wow... gorgeous fish! What is the fish in picture #2? It is soooo pretty!
  3. Thanks for your comments! Well, I think I've narrowed it down to Red Zebras, Mainganos and... something else! Maybe Yellow Labs or Ps. of some kind... It will depend on what's available and what I can afford...
  4. Great pics! Thanks for sharing! The first time I tried to take pics of my fish all I got were colourful blurs that did not even remotely resemble fish!! What kind of fish is that in the second pic?
  5. Well I was FINALLY able to locate some black eggcrate today. So that problem is now solved... phew! That stuff is hard to find!!! In case anyone is interested I got it from All-West Plastics, cost $20 and they cut it for me as well. Oooooo getting closer.... -ham-
  6. WOW!!!!! That is GORGEOUS!!!! Way to go!!!!
  7. *waiting not-so-patiently for pics* -ham-
  8. OK then... scratch that idea! Thanks for the info Canuckle. And here I thought I was so clever coming up with that on my own... I haven't seriously considered plexiglass but I think I will get some prices on it tomorrow... for some reason I'm expecting it to be expensive...
  9. I'm wondering if I run a strip of silicon along the sides of that plastic stuff if that be sufficient to plug the holes... :well: I'm also going to try and find black eggcrate tomorrow, apparently it does exist, the only stuff I saw other than white was chrome and it was $40 for a sheet! Whatever I do, I need to do it soon... gotta get that tank cycling! -ham-
  10. Hmmm... good point... but I don't entirely understand how that would happen, if it was cut to fit flush to the sides... :well: 'Course I may be missing something here!!
  11. I was just doing some more research on this whole eggcrate thing... and I had an idea... What if I used that stuff that's made out of plastic but looks like corrugated cardboard? Not sure what the correct name of this stuff is... it comes in a bazillion colours and then I wouldn't have to worry about painting it OR the sand compacting into the holes... I thought about plexi glass but it seems plexi is kinda expensive... any thoughts??
  12. Thanks guys! I'll see if I can find any of those...
  13. Thanks for the info Oxquo! I was talking to Henry today and apparently what I did wrong was 'forcing' the stalk out of the tank, I just should have let it go on it's own... Oh well, one mystery solved! And two new stalks comin' up! I love this plant!!
  14. I was thinking about painting the white eggcrate I got black so if it gets dug up it won't show so much against the black sand... Good or bad idea? And if it's a good one, what kind of paint should I use? :well:
  15. OK I will keep all that in mind. Thanks RD!
  16. Yep... no clue what to do after that... BTW the first stalk totally dried out... There's another one coming, halfway up to the top already, I'm going to leave it alone for awhile. This might be a stupid question but if they dry out when they are not in water and don't bloom under water.... what the heck do I do?? Obviuosly I'm missing something....
  17. Ya know... I have looked at those and thought they were really nice ( Freshmike's is gorgeous btw ) but I've also read about a lot of people having serious agression issues with them... the words 'highly agressive' and 'difficulty level 4' strike fear in my newbie heart!
  18. Good point... ah but the males are soooo nice...
  19. OK, well to start I am getting 10 red zebras from Malawi_Luver. So you're saying that cyn. afras won't work with these? They really look that similiar? All I have is pictures to go on... to my untrained eyes the afras look much darker and 'stripey-er'... is SO a word!! I really like the looks of these but if you guys say no-go then I'll trust your advice.
  20. Heyyyyy that IS a good idea! And so timely considering I'm going to be rinsing 3 bags of Tahitian Moon tomorrow! Kyle I got mine at the Boxing Day sale for super cheap... sorry I can't help ya there...
  21. Thanks guys! What you've said makes a lot of sense... I like the idea of having a few big groups instead of 'fish soup'. Plus if it helps keep the agression levels down, well that's all good too! I guess now I just need to see what's available, I'd like to get little guys so I can watch them develop and if possible would like to add everyone at the same time. This is sooooo exciting!!! -ham-
  22. Ok, I have been reading and reading and READING... This will be my first venture into Africans and I want to do a Mbuna tank. Here is the list of what I like, any comments or suggestions are more than welcome! I'm finding this all very overwhelming... Cynotilapia afra "Chewere" or "Cobue" or "Mbenji" or "Nkhata" Labeotropheous trewasavae (Mpanga red) Labidochromis "Hongi" or "Hongi SRT" Labidochromis "Perlmutt" Labidochromis caerulus "Electric yellow" Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos "Maingano" Metriaclima callainos "Cobalt" Metriaclima sp. "Aurora yellow" Metriaclima Greshakei or Greshakei Albino Metriaclima Zebra Blue "Blueberry" Metriaclima Blue Reef I also saw at Chums something called "Tangerine Zebra" that was gorgeous but I don't know the scientific name... Pseudotropheous "Polit" Psedotropheous "Saulosi" Pseudotropheous "Socolofi" or "Albino Socolofi" Pseudotropheus sp. "Flameback" I realize this is a big list and I obviously don't plan to keep them all, so anything that will help me narrow it down is a good thing. Also, if there's something that I haven't mentioned that you think I should look at please say so. Thanks!
