  1. So pretty great color on that guy.
  2. Is anyone here interested in a possible guppy Co op ? I am working on 3 new strains right now. Moscow var. "Northern lights" a black blue bicolor, Albino var. "Winter sunset" a red and blue bicolor, and big ear var. "Fabio flametail" a red tailed, short bodied, big ear, metal head with extreme fin development. With the recent difficulties importing due to permits I am having to keep a lot of stock as I can't replenish my gene pool. I would like to give away a pair of each to different people once I can sex the fry or give you current breeding pairs. I normally sell these pairs for 50 to 200.00 plus dollars the very odd time I do sell any but these would be no charge as long as you are willing to keep them in at least a 10 gallon planted tank with no other fish except maybe a Cory or something, be willing to do water changes etc. Keep notes on all breeding, and tank maintenance, you would also have to be willing to collaborate and give back 2 pairs of my choice at some point when you have enough sub adults built up in the next 2 years. You provide your own equipment and high quality food such as NLS but my breeding stock is FREE. Thanks all and happy fish keeping
  3. Unfortunatly i lost George on monday night i think it was. I still feel terrible
  4. Have tried the shrimp. I did a 40% water change a few miniutes ago with preheated clean water. I hope it helps. I think however it might be too late.
  5. I change 10 to 20 % every Saterday. Although in his condition he didnt get one yesterday. He is not looking very good at all this morning. Barely breathing. I think i am going to loose him. And not knowing what i did wrong i am very reluctant to try again. And no during the one week he was eating he was very healthy with no sign of parasites. I feel absolutely terrible. I havnt had him for very long but he really means allot to me. -05- Thank You Rose
  6. Hi all, I am hoping someone can help me. George is a south American red tailed cat fish Phractocephalus hemioliopterus. I will give you all the information i can. When i first got George about 2 weeks ago he took about 2 days to begin feeding properly. For a week after that he fed well on guppies, thawed bloodworms sinking cichlid pellets and home grown baby crickets which he seemed to love. Then 3 days ago he stopped eating. He has no visible signs of illness. His only tank mate for the last 10 days has been a sailfin pleco. My ph is sitting at about 7 as my water is a little soft. Other readings for nitrates etc are 0. I have tried incapacitated guppies, followed by freshly killed guppies, crickets, bloodworms, beefheart, and small thawed shrimp. Tonight he is very listless, does not want to swim and only sits in his favorite plant. His colour has paled. I had an outbreak of ick after my electric heater kicked out in the middle of the night about 5 days ago? But not in his tank as it is heated to about 78. I am terrified of loosing him and i dont know what i have done wrong. He was my early birthday present from my husband and i love George very much. If anyone has any suggestions they would be welcome. Thank You Rose
  7. Hi Shai, I am very sorry about your little guy. From the picture i think it might be an internal ulcer. This is typically caused by bacteria but could also be internal parasite? I had this on my goldfish that i got from wal mart a couple of years ago and it spread through the tank like wild fire. It seems like every 2 or 3 days another one would get it. So yes i would treat the whole tank. I would treat with an strong antibiotic. If you live in Edmonton i will be in tomorrow and maybe we can meet on the west end where i am delivering some fish. I have some almond leaf that works very well especially when combined with commercial medicine. My losses drop noticeably when i use it on an infection like that.
  8. personally i think they would prefer a longer space to swim as they do breath air. The more air space up top the better. I like to keep mine in shallow tanks when the water is not filtered.
  9. Thank god for lucky 97 and T&T supermarket. You can buy cheap live food or dead. Its meant for humans but my fish dont complain. Then i also have somewhere usefull for the millions of baby shubunkins and sarasas i end up with every spring from my outdoor pond. Better than convincing friends to let me build them a pond and take 100 off my hands! And much less work!
  10. It's quite possible that "next year" won't be quick enough for that cat. You might want to source something to keep him in when he outgrows the 120 before he moves to the pond. Believe it or not i am a woman of many talents. hehe. I'm halfway through my masters in gardening and landscape design. I can build an indoor pond in less than a week if need be hehe. I already have a corner in my current dwelling selected if the need arises. Unfortunately George will however just have to live with about a 2or 300 g pond until i build the 1500.
  11. um... where are you putting the potentially HUMONGEOUS George? gotta pool? man... i would give my hubbys left nut for a pool full of fish... At the moment George is in a 48 gallon, when he gets a little bigger he will move to a 120g and next year he will have an indoor pond after the house is built.
  12. Hello all, I would like everyone to meet George. My new baby red tailed cat. Thank you so much to Colby of Elite Aquatic in Calgary for bringing this little fellow in. All you folks down there should stop bye for a visit. I found him very knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. George arrived extremely healthy and did not have the typical body scars or infections i normally see. Anyways, Here is George Baby_George_1.bmp
  13. Just thought i would add a breeding note. When breeding for the DT gene, do not breed two DT together. It is a lethal dominent gene. Meaning you will loose most of your fry and those that survive will have very short bodies and great difficulty swimming. To breed DT select EITHER! a male or female DT and a spouse of the same fin variety (plakat, Half Moon Plakat, Crown Tailed,Super Delta, Half Moon, or Veiltailed) Most of your fry will take the Double tailed gene as it is dominent. Happy Fishkeeping ! Rose
  14. Well he has a little bit of butterfly lacing, and is fully masked so he would make a good breeder. To get super delta babies wich are very nice breed him to a half moon female with a dragon background. If you are choosing a Plakat female. I would choose a Half Moon Plakat as the half moon Plakats have a nicer shape and about half of your fry would turn out with the nice half moon tail and body shape. Your best bet for X ing in my opinion is another yellow dragon or yellow butterfly for the nicest fry. If i find out anything else i will let you know. Rose
  15. Nice Dragon! I love dragons they are one of my favorite. Yours is a silver dragon with mustard gas yellow. The nice sky blue metallic is from a blood dragon back in his lineage somewhere ! Beautifull fish
