  1. I am really liking the slate.
  2. Welcome to AA Check out the CLF auction under the Buy and Sell
  3. I would also say to go with the wider tank, and if you can bump it to a 240 that would be even better.
  4. Some bad pics of the 33 I set up for the new P. Nigripinnis from Jorg. I'm really excited about these guys. Starting to see a bit of blue on the fins of some of them

    Ha-lo!

Welcome! You have some nice fish! I didn't know Aquagiant carried 3D backgrounds, I'll have to check that out if I am ever up in Ed-town.
  11. If you do get yo-yos get more than one, get them adult-sized if you can and maybe throw in a bunch of danios or something when you add them. Everything will be so busy chasing the little dithers, maybe they won't care about the yo-yos.
  12. I never tried BN's in my cichlid tank. I have a yo-yo loach and raphael catfish in my tanks as bottom cleaners and have not had problems. I also have a large "who knows what type" pleco that nothing bothers. The raphael is extremely well protected with spines and always hides in the day time, but at night I sometimes glimpse him going on the rounds. There is a fish store in Calgary that I forget the name of that has yo-yos in almost all their cichlid tanks and they recommended them. I should also mention that for the plecos that I had tried previously anything under a foot got offed, but at a foot they were fine. The yo-yo the cichlids don't seem to react to as a fish, and the raphael is seldom seen anyway.
  13. Along with the medicating of the water you could also try adding garlic guard to their meals, might just give the immune systems a boost.
  14. Here is some advice from reef central. Now according to advice I received you should not do wc's while curing. However I did not have that particular advice when I started out and I did many water changes while curing my own LR because I did not want all the cool things I was seeing on the LR to die in the toxic sludge water. Turns out I guess my first "mistake" wasn't a mistake according to this:
  15. I don't bother. I am clumsy enough without putting gloves on. Besides...it's kinda fun telling my fiance "the bristleworm got me" or "look at this awesome rash!" or "this is cool...look at the size of these hives!" lol
  16. I forgot to add, you could also siphon out the purple slime, replacing water lost with new water. Keep any water changes to a minimum until your cycle is done or it will just take longer.
  17. Just leave the lights off during your cycle or you may end up with pest algae. (I learned that the hard way.) Some worms can be beneficial. Before you go removing them, check and see if they are good or bad. there are many critters that are beneficial detrivores (crap cleaner-uppers). Check the second link to see if you can find some of your "hitch-hikers". starting out Hitch-hiker ID's Slime is usually indicative of either bacteria or algae. The lights being on for 12 hours a day may also help this "purple slime" grow which would not be good. Try blowing it off with a turkey baster on a regular basis. Leave the lights off whenever you are not staring into your tank looking for new critters to come out of the rock It's possible your skimmer might take care of it. You might also need some more flow in your tank. You should also try posting and reading on canreef, there are many experienced people there who can give great advice and help. Take your time and just keep waiting for the cycle. Once your tests are coming up at 0 for ammonia, nitrites and hopefully nitrates as well--wait a week after that and if all tests well you should be safe to add in "life" starting with a clean up crew. (don't add fish right off the bat)
