  1. well, after falling in love with one of the newest members of our crew...Mr. yoyo aquired at the CAS auction....my wife found him this morning- suicide! Apparently he jumped out of the tank- or the others banned together and pushed him over the edge while we slept. While he was only with us for a short time we had grown very fond of his attention seeking demeanor.
  2. My pearl gourami "big daddy". He is around 5 years old....I hope he will be around for many more.
  3. "Any other suggestions? Don't want him to starve." My Pleco did not really care for the zuchinni- he prefers cucumber. I tried to get him to eat the zuchinni over and over- finally I decided to get a regular cucumber- cut off a nice sized slice- used an elastic to hold it on to a rock- the next morning, it was pretty much sucked hollow. I think I will try peeling the next one though, as he leaves the skin and I have to fish it out. Good luck
  4. Our oldest cat Onslow- 16 years old- just noticed our tank yesterday. We have had the tank since Sept! He stood up on his hind paws- and pawed the glass at the fancy guppies. LOL Great picture!

  7. Congrats!!!! -ham- You will have to post a picture when you get it all set up!!
  8. I know I have talked about this before in this forum- but I thought I would ask for some suggestions from this community. My wife and I inherited a 25 gal tank all set up when a friend of ours moved from Calgary to PEI. It is my first fish tank ever- and well needless to say since we got it in Sept. I have been hooked and totally addicted to learning more more more! :boxed: There is a pleco in our tank that I am pretty sure is getting to big to be in a 25 gal. - I have been looking online (and here) for a 120-180 gal to accomidate him. The reason we are looking so big- instead of just a 90....is well, I would rather buy once and get what we really want than- buy now and upgrade later to what we really want. So anyway...I have not been able to find a larger tank as of yet and I cant get the pleco out of my head. I know there are stores we can take him into and that I could sell him on here- thats just such a hard thing for me to do, I did end up getting attached to the big guy. (approx 7-8 inches) So the point of this post- if we were to give the pleco a new home  - I was trying to figure out what to add in his place. Here is our tank stock now- 2 Pearl Gourami (male and female) 3 fancy guppies 3 tetras (not sure of the kind) 1 Big Pleco (not sure of the kind) If we were to find the pleco a new home- what are some suggestions for his place? We were thinking cory's (if so I know they like to be in a group- whats a suitable number) or a Bristlnose pleco since they stay smaller or a SAE (not sure how big they get) All suggestions and comments welcomed-
  9. Well- since I have been captivated by this site for the past 3 days, I thought I should at least say hello and introduce myself. My name is Austin- and I am a recent addict into the world of fish. My wife and I inherited a 25 gal. tank in September from friends who moved from Calgary to PEI and couldn't take the tank with them. It had a male Pearl Gourami (3") 1 neon tetra 3 other tetras (a kind that I do not know) and a HUGE pleco. The neon did not make the tank move- but everyone else survived. We added a female Pearl Gourami and 3 fancy guppies to the tank. I cant believe how fast the little girl gourmi has grown, she started out about an inch and is now about the same size as the male. Now that we are tank owners, I have been doing my research and it seems as though the Pleco has outgrown this tank. I think he is around 7-8", and he just does not have the space to be very active. So he lays in a tunnel we have built out of rock in the center of the tank most of the day, or stays hung on the wall next to the heater-but other than that, we hardly ever see him move around much. So because of Mr. Pleco- I joined this group and am currently searching for a larger tank that will support him and our growing family  I was so glad to find this group. This is my first tank ever and I couldn't believe how I was suddenly becoming quite the addict......this group made me realize that I am defintely NOT ALONE!! Anyway- I look forward to becoming an active member here and welcome PMs, advice, or general chats with any of you. Austin Crossfield AB
