  1. Thanks / Yes the pictures on this thread show what is happening /
  2. Yes indeed / that thread did answer some of my question.... however if I may be so bold to show my ingnorance if you go to the last page of the thread ... it shows the sump / why does it apear that there are two inflow tubing lines into the sump? Ah the sump I better start doing somthing there/
  3. Is there a recipe for creating marine water /// ROwater and marine salt / how much salt per gallon of ro water I know this is basic stuff / however I have never done salt before.... Sooo I have a million questions that I need answered by someone experienced and trust me it is apreciated as the litterature on the net is a little confusing. TY in advance
  4. When curing live rock is it possible to move the process along by installing a temporary filter that has been cycled material from a fresh water tank......... or is it possible to use the fishless cycle procedure with pure amonia to speed up the process or cycle the tank even before the live rock goes in?
  5. Diatoms often apear in a tank that has not fully cycled / new tank syndrom ... It will go away soon
  6. My fav. is silica 7-8 / I hate play sand it is a little to compact
  7. I have had them a couple of times / they will periodically die back to nothing and I meen nothing and then all of a sudden after a few months suddenly apear!
  8. Wecome back / love the Barbie thumbnail
  9. I would try Patricia Auto for the diamond bits // oops Princess Auto LOL
  10. The Cacatuoid male must be wild ... or is that just something to do with the picture / No red fins ... I once had a bunch of the wilds...they are among my favorites... makes me want to get back into apistos / there are so many varieties and they all can be a challenge to breed./
  11. That sounds fishy.... it must of been someone who knew the tank was there / 120 glass tank is not light and easy to handle... more then one person and a vehicle to take off with it.
  12. I would pretend that you are doing a fishless cycle and use the prescribed amount of pure amonia for the gallonage of the tank...
  13. That shouldnt be a problem in a cycled tank and if you use prime when doing a water change / I also checked my city water for amonia... it checked out at 0ppm and I also checked the water for disolved solids .. its reading 240PPM normal / I live in North Edmonton... so it may be different depending on the location in the city that you live. It is always good to check your water from time to time
  14. The problem with brewing your own is..... from experience I can say the following Hard to control / the c02 generated from diy drops off over a couple of weeks DIY is ok if watched closely for small aquariums.... can you imagine trying to keep 3 or 4 of these going on a 50-60 gallon aquarium and having a replacement ready to go all the time... not for me All said if one is very dilligent and checks PH levels constantly and likes to tinker constantly it is possible ..........
  15. c02 systems usually have a Solenoid that is controled on a timer plus they have bubble counters to control amounts of co2 expelled / Not to mention the convience of not having to lift a finger till the co2 is finnished in the bottle that lasts a year or so depending on the size of bottle and amount being used. I use to use flourish till I realized after reading how effective pressurized systems are... now I only use excel on small tanks You should be able to find a pressureized system quite cheap used or new online for around 200dollars if you decide to go that way.
  16. It melts Riccia and some other sensitive plants...never had any problems with it hurting vals / otherwise it is a good alternative the problem with it is the cost / your money is better off saved for the purchase of a co2 system... it will save you money in the long run flourish is expensive....
  17. FX5 is so clumsy... wish they would do something about that / Mine works great however it will never be my favorite for several reasons.... the looks of the intake and output is visualy unapealing and to clean the puppy is not fun! All that said , it works very well
  18. I recieved a pair of Brevis recently ... Male and female... they came nicely tucked in a shell.... very nice fish indeed Put them in a 48" tang tank that I started up and they were in and out of that shell for several days ... then the female disappeared / didnt see her for several days... all of a sudden I have seen her again only she has chosen to live in a pile lace rocks that I set up in the centre of the tank away from the shell area I set up for the Brevis / is it common for Brevis not to go into a shell and choose a rocks! The male quitely sits near one of the shells patiently waiting .... what do you think?
