  1. Evening, finaddict, This males will reach around 6" and the females slightly smaller around the 4" range. This one is alittle over 2" right now Degrassi, right now I have the fish in the 60 seamless with 5 Super Red Emps, 1 male Aul. baenschi, 3 Aul. Bi-color 500, 1 maleTwaiwan Reef and a syno. All the fish are around 3" or less. I have had my Sexo (yellow) in my show tank for over a year and in a few months thats where this one will be. As for the name... yea I have heard them called False or fake Frontosa before but not poor mans frontosa. @$20.00 plus a fish I wouldnt say "poor mans" when I can get good fronts at this size 2" for less and more readily available Sammy
  2. Good Evening, I wanted some of these last year when I seen them at BA's, but picked up the Neolamprologus sexfasciatus (Gold) instead. Thanks Popeye for sharing your finds with me, Those are exactly what we were looking for. These ones can be bred in captivity, the ones that have reportedly not been bred in captivity are the Blue sexfasciatus. Hope you enjoy. Sammy
  3. Good Morning, Glad you liked the picture show, I will be adding a bunch more pictures to it when I get some time. The camera used for most of the pictures is a Olympus C8080WZ 8mp camera. Thanks again, Sammy
  4. Good Evening, I think you may need the Java browser plug-in. its a small harmless download. You can download it from here. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Sammy
  5. Howdy, We were putting some pics together tonight and I was alittle bored so I put this little slide show together to show some of the 100's of photos we have of our fish. It takes a couple minutes to get started but its kinda cool. Click on the images to see larger view. http://www3.telus.net/ISOPlanetCOD/ Dial up beware. Hope you enjoy! Sammy
  6. Howdy, Every time I get this camera out this little bugger runs for shelter. He is the only one that is camera shy. So finally I got some nice pictures of him and Id like to share. He is approx 4.5" and is in Breeding mode with his mate right now. Hope he does the dirty deed soon so we can have some little ones. This little guy grew the fastest out of all my fish, hope his kids do the same. Sammy
  7. Molino, I grabbed a pair from Golds and they are listed as Protomelas steveni "Yellow Chin" , They also look like the Protomelas taeniolatus spec. "Chilumba Jetty" that I have seen around the net. Right now he looks more like the Jetty to me. Sammy
  8. Howdy, Here is a couple recent pictures of the new seamless tank with Hoodfilter. Here is were the output of the internal powerhead runs out over top of your choice of media (notice the built in power outlet, just needs to be hooked up) Working its way along a 4' x 5" media tray And finally to the return, back into the tank from above. Here is a couple more new shots of the tank and inhabitants. Hope you like, Sammy
  9. Howdy, Im really taken a liking to these Pheno's. The wife has got me thinking about an all species tank of these fish. Here is a couple pictures of my W/C at 5.5". He is really starting to fleck out now. Otherside They can grow over 10" or so. Sammy
  10. Hi Degrassi, I posted some more info in this thread. http://s6.invisionfree.com/AlbertaAquatica...?showtopic=3800 Sammy
  11. Howdy, The Sil sand I have been talking about in other post is a multi purpose Sil product. Its available in many shapes and forms, it comes in a natural crushgravel mix like this. The Lighter stuff is a industrial quartz. (My fav) cleans super easy and does not effect the water parameters ie.. Hardness or ph like some other sands may. This is .50mm .50mm Its also comes in a few different size from .25mm - 3mm. 100lbs of the quartz its less then $15. 80lbs of the larger natural mix is under $20 I have 200lbs of the Quartz in a slightly larger size of .65mm for sale if anyone wants some. Here is a link with all the data you need on filter sands playsands, blasting sands you'll need acrobat reader for the data sheets. http://www.sil.ab.ca/ Hope this helps. Sammy
  12. Howdy all, I think playsand sucks (too dirty and very lightweight) However The Sil sand is a great alternaitive for tanks. I have used all sorts from .5mm and up to 1.5mm of Sil products with no problems what so ever. I had posted pictures of 2 types of sil that I have available here in edmonton. I would Highly recommend a pre-filter on your intakes when dealling with sand. Also you need to have a decent current in the tanks to get the poop to work its way around. WHat I do is before placing the sand in the tank I run it for the day with filters all on and sprinkle some flake food and watch how it settles, then make adjustments as needed. I have never had to boil any of the sil I get, just alittle rinsing (comes pre washed) and its dirt cheap. FYI. Mostly all the African tanks at BA's have crush coral for substrate. Sammy
  13. Howdy, I was in there today and they did have Saulosi and many other new stock. The stock arrive on Tues. Some nice fish, but pricey. Sammy
  14. Howdy Degrassi, Im hoping to breed out the Copadichromis azureus and the Protomelas taeniolatus (yellow Chin) . I also have a nice group of Protomelas taeniolatus (Super Red Emps). But I may put the emps in another breeder tank. My syno's have been living with the Azureus and Emps for awhile and think they will click better with them. My Azureus are real flashy dancers which seems to spark an intrest in the Multi's. Sammy
  15. I noticed about 4 months ago Big A'ls had some in and they looked good at first then all of a sudden the numbers dropped and the remaining ones all had huge eye balls. Kinda looked like either they were not getting enough good food or they all had some sort of popeye thing going on with them. I am pretty sure the water parameters of the tanks those Blue dempseys are in at big als are alittle softer then your posted info, The Alk/Hard (buffer) is alittle lower then your specs which keeps the PH of that tank around 7.6. Good luck with them, They are neat little fish. Little for now Sammy
  16. Good Day, Pretty excited about this new tank from AQUAGIANT now that its been up for a couple weeks. I really dig these built in filter assembly, it can hold a bunch of media however you need to make sure not to stuff it too full. This tank is going to be my hap breeder with a family of syno's. Sammy
  17. Howdy, I can get my hands on some nice sand/gravel for cheap here in Edmonton Im talking $25 for 80-100lbs of this stuff. I have used both of these with my Africans for aleast 1 year now and no problems with filter or system. This is a fine crushed quarts that has been pre-wash {Not too fine - about .25m} easy to clean Here it is in one of the tanks. And here is the other type of crushmix i can get - also very easy to clean. Its about 3mm in size maybe less This here is Tahiti Moonsand, cost $30 for 20lbs@ BA's. Im trying it out in my new tank. If anyone is intrested leave me a pm. Sammy
  18. Its been awhile but I was taken some pictures today and wanted to share a few new ones of the Pheno's progress. He is getting nice flecks on him now. Oh he is about 5.5" right now and a few more to go. Here is one on the little TR that was sent up from Calgary. What a cool little fella he turned out to be. He is my backup/sub incase mr.fancy-pants doesnt perform. How are your Pheno's comming along Degrassi? Got them crazy cats under control yet? Sammy
  19. One quick recent photo of the Pheno I will post some more pictures this weekend of the fish before NLS and a few new Pheno pics. Sammy
  20. Degrassi, Did you recently do a water change? What part of the city are you from if you dont mind me asking? With spring here the water from the tap can be really goofy lots of extra additives added this time of year. Just a thought. Sry about your loss, (Just noticed you have your location in another post) Check the water quality link off of fish-club.org see what it says. Sammy
  21. Good Day, I have a few more new pictures Id like to share. Im looking for some pictures of these fish of mine before NLS. Will post them soon. Group Shots Hope you enjoy. Mike (Sammy)
  22. Thanks guys for the quick response, I too thought that I might have had a sub-dom male because of the slight coloring in the one fish, However I have had the 2 remaining "females" in a tank by with one other female ruby by themsleves for over 4 months and nothing has changed much in color on them females. I have looked on the OWC site many times and never see them list jacob's ?? Know why that is?. Anyways Im hunting the origin of these fish as I type. Thanks again, Sammy
  23. Here is a couple pictures of the females if it helps any. Female1 Females2 Females3 Cheers, Sammy
  24. Good Evening, I have a small group of these that came in on an OWC order about 7-8 months ago. They were listed as Swallowtail (Otterpoint), Im thinking about selling my 2 remaining females cause they were a fiesty bunch and i got tired of moving the females in and away from him. He would always viciously attack them even in a 65gal by themselves (largest breeder tank I have). He did kill one female a few months ago. He does fine in the showtank up stairs (for now). So anyways I was looking through my cd's to get confirmation on their ID before selling them because he has change abit in size and color these last few months *Neil . Now I have my doubts of what location or species these fish are from. To me they look closer to Boadzulu Island, Nkhudzi rather then Otterpoint Here is a couple pictures. Anyhelp would be appreciated. Oldest to newest pics Pic1 Pic2 Pic3 Pic4 Pic5 The last 2 were today and dont do any justice to the fish (bad camera) Notice the syno's in the pics? I was telleing RD about my syno's beggy ever since I switched to NLS. Them suckers would rarely come out before. They love that stuff. Here's a couple of the begger's scrambling over a 1mm size peice of poop. Crazy Cats. lol. Thanks again, Sammy
  25. Hey Kyle, I found some usefull info on this site http://www.scotcat.com/articles/articles_breeding.htm maybe you'll find something intrestting there. Sammy
