  1. Like Jason says, they should be fine....make sure you have some caves, driftwood, etc, and you shouuld be fine. But watch those Angels, cuzz they become DEVILS the minute they pair off, and will pound anyone that comes near the spot they have chosen to lay eggs........ James
  2. just stumbled across this in bargainfinder........ ONE CO2 20lb cyl, full $100., $100.00 http://www.buysell.com/root/detail/Edmonto...l_full_100.aspx
  3. Nick: here's another for you, and it's local! http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=...cat=1,180,42316 only problem is, LV only sell up to 1" They are also available from Acklands-grainger, but they are commercial quality, and priced accordingly......(use search words diamond hole saw) https://www.acklandsgrainger.com/AGIPortalW...ource/index.jsp HTH James
  4. Hey Martin! Glad to see you made it over!! (I put in a good word with one of the moderators for you ) For any who don't recognize the name, go have a look around the Loaches Online site...... http://www.loaches.com/ .......and you will notice Martin's many contributions to the site:) Sue: before you jump in with both feet, you might want to stop by the LOL site and read up on the rather specialized conditions required to SUCCESSFULLY keep Hillstream type fish. http://www.loaches.com/articles/hillstream...n-the-fast-lane http://www.loaches.com/articles/a-river-runs-through-it http://www.loaches.com/articles/sewellia-l...o-our-aquariums There's more, but that's a good start!! HTH James
  5. I had S. Petriolas, and added 3 C. Sterbai........couple days later, down to 2 Sterbai....took the remaining 2 back to lfs, next day only 1 was still kicking.....that was my experience. Your mileage may vary..... James
  6. In a 33g, I would think seriously about the Dwarf loaches (Sidthimunki), as they stay small. and with loaches, 3 is an absolute minimum, 5 is better:) For all things loachy, it's hard to beat the info (and the people) on the loachesonline site.......how many other forums do you know of who's collective membership collaborated to produce a book?? http://www.loaches.com/ main site http://forums.loaches.com/viewforum.php?f=...5315e90245a4b3e forum HTH James
  7. SHAI: Please do!! I'm sure there are many who would love to see it!! Thanks! James
  8. Cat: Ok, it's different if trying to make-do with what's on hand, but I wouldn't run out and buy that for use as a stand.....and I personally would be looking at some fortification (only problem is, it would be visible through the clear panes:)....you could always go to supertint and buy some "frosting" film to make the panes transluscent...... James
  9. $400.00....for that?? Why wouldn't you just buy an aquarium specific stand, I wouldn't expect it would be any more $$. For $400.00, I would fabricate you one like this....built from 2"x1"x0.100"WT rectangular tube to your dimensions. (36"x?x?) James
  10. Why wouldn't you just screw a male PVC/ABS pipe plug into the internal threads in the center of the bulkhead fitting? If there is no bulkhead fitting, just buy one & then plug it:) James
  11. Mike: You might try reading the posts in a thread before responding:) Henry is alive & well, and has moved to a bigger loacation @ 91St & 51Ave, right next door to The Fishin Hole (how ironic is that??) Also a change of name to go along with the change in location, but all of this is in the previous responses in this thread........ James
  12. Well, just stumbled across a smokin deal....but alas, the only tank I have running @ the moment is my Q-tank:(.....seems like Murphy ALWAYS knows where to find me:) http://www.naturescornerstore.com/coupon.html James
  13. BW: You have FW & SW, six tanks total, but I don't see QUARINTINE tanks listed amongst them?? I think you might be finding out the hard way why they are reccommended. Sorry to hear of your problems, I have no SW experience, so I'm afraid I will have to leave this for someone else to answer. Hope they all pull through, I have experienced loss on one occasion, and didn't like it one bit. James
  14. If there is any site where you may find info, loaches online is IT! http://www.loaches.com/ don't be afraid to dig around in the archives, as almost any question you ask will have been asked and answered more than once in the past:) HTH James
  15. ERIN: THEKRIB is one of the older aq websites, but is still a GREAT resource...... see links below http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/Tech/light-spectrum.html http://www.thekrib.com/Lights/ HTH James
  16. Natures Corner is the answer to all your planted tank needs:) James
  17. I only recently noticed a Herp Store in the same complex as the NEW west end Princess Auto. It is facing south on the 111th Ave side of the complex.....didn't have time to go scope it last trip...next time I'm @ Princess I will check it out. James

  22. This topic has been covered here on ALBERTAAQUATICA numerous times........here is a link to a search using only the word cave.....11 pages of results http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?act=S...ighlite=%2Bcave ....and this one had some good ideas..... http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showt...127&hl=cave James
  23. You can go to any decent LFS and buy various diameter round bristle brushes with a nylon cord attached so that you can pull the brushes through. If you find that the cord that they came with isn't long enough, a peice of nylon cord from your weed wacker will work (I've done it!!. You can also get similar nylon bristle brushes from any industrial supplier (Acklands, Greggs, etc) HTH James
  24. As others have mentioned, they will calm down some as they get used to their surroundings. BUT....one thing that goes a long ways towards making bottomdwellers more secure is having plenty of places to hide. Be it bogwood, rock caves, plenty of plant coverage, etc. The more places they have to take refuge, the more secure they feel, and the more of them you will see:) As far as plugging holes....from your LFS you should be able to get the clear plastic strips that fit over the edge of the glass of your glass top, you then trim as needed for filter, hose, cord clearance. In a pinch, you can use a wad of alum foil to fill in holes untill a more permamnent solution is found. James
  25. Well, I won't deny that I am totally biased, but my vote is for steel. As mentioned, you can have the same strength with less mass, meaning more space under tank for storage, sumps for your wet/dry,etc. And as far as spreading the load, the perimetyer style frame I used to build my stand negates that argument as well. On the rust issue, well, if the metal is properly prepared for paint, that does not become an issue either:) (I went big time and powdercoated mine:). If uncoated metal is causing RUST, then the same area uncoated on wood would likely cause warpage..... Have a look @ the pics (WITH COMMENTS) in my gallery..........maybe I can convert some of you woodies to steel http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?autom...um&album=77 JAMES
