  1. Sounds good... I'll let you know how it goes...
  2. My parents tank has a glass center brace, but it just came apart. What's the best way to fix this? Remove old silicone and just apply some new stuff clamp it until it dries? Or should I remove the entire center brace, clean and reattach both sides of the brace? Thanks for your time. Andrew
  3. CO2? YES! Ferts? YES! >>> GW is usually a case of excess ammonia. How planted is your planted tank? >>> It's fully planted with vals, crypts, swords, baccomba, java fern... I'll try a big water change and see what happens... THANKS!
  4. My 80 gallon is now overrun with algae... I had some thread like stuff for a long time, but now my water is GREEN. I can't seem to get rid of it... I continue my regular maintenance, but it never clears up. The tank is NOT exposed to any sunlight. I have just 4 T8 bulbs lighting it. It's been like this for about 3 weeks now... I thought it would clear itself up, but it doens't seem to be happening. Any one have ideas? THANKS Andrew
  5. My blood parrots chewed up all the java fern in their tank. My mbunas leave the java fern alone, but like to dig them up. My other mbunas chew on valisenaria like celery.
  6. 10 gallon with 2 incandescent are the BEST small tanks for PLANTS! Put 2 13w compact flourescent bulbs in and you'll have 26w or 2.6 wpg of lighting, that will be lots for low/medium light plants. Don't go larger like 15w because they get too large (diameter) and won't fit well. Regards, Andrew
  7. I wouldn't do it. Brichardi's are nasty once they get larger. I think you should leave it as is for now. Regards, Andrew
  8. You could probably go with a school of barbs or small tetras. Frankly I think what you have is great already, no need to crowd the tank... add some plants instead? Regards, Andrew
  9. Doesn't matter which. I use both. This tank has gold fish for co2 and gold fish poop for everything else... - A fluval 403 on my java fern tank. These tanks have lots of plants and diy co2 - An AC500 on my 90 gallon. - A basic small other HOB (about a Aquaclear 200) on my other 80 gal and all is fine and good. I saw SerLunchBox's tank. He has 2 AC500 and an Ehiem on a 50 gallon!!! and his plants are fantastic! Andrew
  10. Well I added 4 neons and 4 green swords and now all fish are happy and swim all over the place... YEAH!
  11. Hi, I have a school of cardinal tetras and all they do is hide in the vals. They swam around when I first got them, but now they just hide and dart in/out during feeding. I have no other fish with them. Should I add some other "cover" fish? Thanks, Andrew
  12. I didn't stay and didn't buy anything (too much other work), but I know a *BIG* thanks goes to Christian and the rest of CAS and other volunteers as they make these auctions possible. THANKS to all who helped out. Regards, Andrew
  13. I don't see how that would be possible for $200, even assuming DIY and used lumber/sinks/etc. I would think $500 is closer to reality... cheers.
  14. I have 7 tanks (90/80/80/50/50/33/33 and 3 empty 45/45/30), and my parents have 3 (40/20/10).
  15. Yeah the 2-4 wpg is just a rule-of-thumb. I've got an 80 gallon 24" tall that I have 4x32T8 = 128 / 80 = 1.6 wpg. I'll let every one know if it works for my plants which are mostly low light ones... -vals -crypts -java fern - 2 swords (don't know the type, these will probably need more light). Regards, Andrew
  16. My Socolofi had babies about 1 month ago, but took the mom out and left her in a different tank to release the babies naturally (as opposed to striping her). Anyway she was away from the dad for about 1 month. Yesterday I reunited them after I cleared some tank space and BOOM, the male immediately went in a frenzy and started to fan out all his fins and shimmer. After about 5 seconds of flashing her, they both went into the clay pot and started spinning around each other... kinda looks like dogs sniffing each others bum ... and they spun around for about 15 minutes. Afterwards the female was holding a bunch of EGGS... WOW! That was cool, I would've tried to capture it on video, but I didn't want to miss the action! -Andrew
  17. This part that confused me, but makes me think that T8 is still better... http://www.lrc.rpi.edu/programs/nlpip/ligh...s/lat5/pc10.asp The T8 operates better at 20-25 degress as opposed to the T5. -Andrew
  18. Ask "Dave", he is the ballast guy... I personally have never tried. Also call BriteLite in the NE they are very good with lighting...
  19. If you can wait then 1 week is the best... then 3 days. I couldn't wait as I had fish coming in so I added water after 24 hours, and it was ok.
  20. Well I moved all the plants into their new tank on the weekend... we'll see if they grow ok or not. Thanks everyone! Andrew
  21. Yeah most had some leaves melting, but they are all recovering now and even new "babies" are sprouting up... yeah.
  22. PMDD and Co2 and the odd jobes plant stick thing....
  23. Hi Dave, I just PM'd you for your phone number and address. Yes I would like to have it. THANKS a bunch. andrew
