  1. 10% of ADA coupon http://piscespets.com/coupons/
  2. I recently started aquascaping too. Read through my thread, I posted some links on Design How to plant Cool rocks Etc http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=38567
  3. have you tried this? http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=11713 I did it the other day and it worked out great!
  4. If you can't find one made, just google custom tanks on kiiji such as this http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-pets-accessories-orders-available-for-custom-aquariums-at-concept-aquatics-W0QQAdIdZ450403541
  5. The frog must have been dead, or near death or it was a different type of snail. Frogs are much quicker than pom snails and could easily escape. Pom diff snails are not predators, but rather opportunistic or scavengers that will clean up dead things. There are some types off apple snails who would eat tiny snails (pest pond snails) but it would have to be tiny compared to the apple snail.
  6. I'm almost positive they are both mystery snails (mystery snails are apple snails of the Pomacea diffusa (old name: Pomacea bridgesii) I have never seen any of my mystery snails attack, they are very peaceful, but they are male and femal and try to mount or enter to breed. I've only seen one try to eat the other if one was dead. There is a TON of information here www.applesnail.net I have had apple snails with small feet too. Maybe because they didn't have the right kind of nutrition in the store. I think they need enough calcium to grow the shells, feet properly. I used to add calcuim to the tank when I was breeding them, but I don't know if that helped.
  7. I found the assassin snails really worked for me! I had about 10 in my 10 gallon and a couple weeks later... snail free
  8. hmmm maybe it is thicker... it was one large bag of ADA amazonia
  9. Here is the 20 Gallon with more plants. Currently have my cardinal tetras, cherry shrimp, snails, killifish pair and female pink danios (As my 10 gallon started leaking, resealed it and will try a 'pandora aquascape') Here is the Spec redone with a smaller tree and different subtrate. Nothing in here yet. Hopefully blue shrimp soon. Also made a mesh thing to try breeding the pink danios. They didn't spawn so I separated them again and am going to condition some more. Here is the Ebi, not much different but I have added male pink danios i addition to the killifish trio and yellow shrimp
  10. Thanks everyone! Again here is my inspiration pages: http://www.aquascapingworld.com/threads/aquascaping-categories-my-own-take-on-it.5970/ And this is the process I used: http://fish-etc.com/aquascaping-main/aquascaping-a-planted-aquarium/2 I lightly rinsed my subtrated and filled according to the above directions and I had very little or no clouding. The page also has links for videos with tips on planting that were helpfull. Just uploading a few update pics. Then I will finish off my redone 10 gallon and post them all in the aquaphoto section.
  11. My trip up to edmonton went well. Except that morning I woke up to find my 10 gallon half empty... leak! So even though I saw lots of fish I wanted to buy... I ended up just getting one group because I was short one tank and had to transfer all my snails, shrimp and cardinal tetras to my 20 gal long. I was planning on getting those ember tetras.... but Aquarium central had these pink danios that I just couldn't resist! Most of the ones I got were long fin as well. The guy who helped me was really great and he even gave me a couple of egg heavy females so I am going to try my hand at egg layer breeding (I have only tried live bearers in the past) I currently have the biggest female with a couple of males in my unoccupied fluval spec with some of that plastic mesh. If they don't spawn in the next couple of days I will separate them again and condition them some more and try again in a week or so. My good camera lens is broken and they are too fast for my iphone but they look like this:
  12. I just wento to shawnessy to pick up some crystal shrimp (I called around asking and most places just had cherry. ghost or flower) when I called the girl said the crystal were either $4 or $5. But when I got there it turns out they were $15 and only had 1 or 2 left.... grrrrr. also needed a check valve and they were out of stock.... double fail Let me know if anyone sees some more unusual shrimp around! Also went to Pisces and they didn't have a flyer available and not all their twoonie signs were up but the guy gave/found me some good plant deals so that was nice
  13. Cupped moss (i think its java moss) is buy two get one for $2 for for $10 you get three potions which should really fill out your tree. Not sure if the more expensive moss is the same deal.
  14. Ember tetras sound nice. Seen any around? I might be in Edmonton on Monday
  15. maybe check into pisces as well as they are haveing a twoonie sale starting tomorrow (not sure what will be on sale yet)
  16. I used flame moss, but I'm sure java or Christmas moss would work too K
  17. I am making a smaller tree so you can have the one in the picture if you want... I am going to be in airdrie tomorrow. PM'd
  18. how about shrimp? Also pisces has twoonie days starting friday too (how did you know about the petland sale?)
  19. Thanks for all the ideas! I googled them all and they don't seem to be as bright and colourful as the cardinal tetras I have, maybe the pictures just don't do them justice. Any other suggestions out there?
  20. Just looking for ideas for fish for this aquarium. I will have shrimp of some sort (yellow, orange, cherry etc) so I think I would like a small schooling fish. I already have cardinal tetras in another tank so I would like something different. prefer: -small, bright and colourful -hangs out at either the top or middle tank -schooling or fine in larger groups -won't harass shrimp -available in calgary (name a store or breeder please) I will be adding more plants to this set up
  21. Super! I happen to be in edmonton kayaking at the wave pool that morning until 10:30! (might be a little late) How do you decide what order to do the items? Do people post in advance what they are bringing?
  22. So I picked up a few Fluval aquariums cheap, so I started with those first. I used 'etched glass' film from home depot as backgrounds. I also have my 10 gallon to redo (i have cardinals, cherry shrimp, and snails in there now) I tried scupting a tree for the Fluval spec but I am not happy with the scale/layout so I will redo this one. I got the rocks from Greens Lapidary for $15. They have some really nice gold/shimmery flecs but I think I might try a more natural coloured substrate. I have a mystery snail and some cherry shrimp in here. I had a dwarf orange cray but it died while moulting Then I did the Fluval Ebi. I took out the foam background and put it behind the aquarium to hide the hanging cords. I got the purple quartz rocks from greens lapidary for about $20. I wish the filter and heater could be hidden behind a 'wall' like in the fluval spec. I have my yellow shrimp and killifish that I got from the CAS meeting in here. And just did my 20 Gallon long. I got the 'moon rock' from Ornamental Stone for about $15. I also wanty to add more ground cover plants when I get the chance/money. Not sure what I will stock this with yet. Some other iphone pics
  23. I can't help but where did you get the emerald rasboras from?
  24. I ust got one from riverfront in calgary... super cute!
