  1. Just finished triming plants and revamping one side of main tank. found two small clutches of eggs both say about the size of a 25 cent piece only round like a ball. I am assuming it was the Rams as they are the only egg layer in the tank that is near big enough at the moment. Had to take them out so place em in a tall container with an air stone and some naja grass I was gonna toss anyway. Hope they end up as viable as they are pretty clear and not white so there is hope. My convicts in another tank is well another story I want em to slow the hell down.. lol probably close to 100 or so fry from two different pairs in the tank.
  2. As a guess checking on the All-glass.com site .. 48" 32 Watt Fluorescent Lamp 65350
  3. http://www.bigalsonline.ca/BigAlsCA/ctl366...riplight48black Quickie link to a BA's item..
  4. This is what I'm running from ESU/Coralife on my 50Gal. http://www.esuweb.com/cardfile.asp?ItemNum...elationship=283 And aside from a slight BBA issue as the tank first settled the difference from stock light to the new one I have been very happy with it.. 192Watts total and built in moonlights puts me very close to 4 watts per gal.
  5. Aren't convicts ALWAYS mating.. Worse then Mollies they are
  6. Very good read.. Thanks for posting this..
  7. Agreed. Drain at least half way if not all. Remove entire brace and clean surfaces. Resilicone and allow ample dry/cure time.
  8. Best if possible to buy captive bred as the article states what is happening to the area they are from based on the fish trade "must have the new fish" scene. Not against anyone who has bought wild caughts by any means but be a shame for this species to be extinct this soon after discovery. I myself would love to get my hands on a set and do a species tank for breeding. Both for bragging rights and for the hobby ingeneral. Not to mention for a small fish they are beauties!!!!
  9. GE Silicone I "window and door" and a 4x4" glass piece. Just silicone the glass patch to the bottom over the hole on the inside. Be sure to get a good spread on the patch though. Or.. Run a longer pipe on the hole that comes higher then water level.. Or.. A short pipe and cap it.. With options 2 and 3 at least it is a lil easier to reuse the hole at a later date if you feel the urge..

    Too Much Flow

Agreed with Paul there restricting the flow will raise the back pressure on the pump (think Beverly Hills Cop and Bananas) not a good long term solution.
  11. Have the measurements of the tank and pics with and without current hood ? From that may be able to plan something for you a lil better.

    Cave'in

Well managed to spin up the tile cutter the other day and make a couple caves. The first one completed I took to the DRAS exec to see what others thought and with a quick rinse (had cured a good 3 days) went into a tank of Zebs, with an order for at least 3 more. Didn't even manage to get one into my tanks first.. Anyway I have just finished making a few more and wanted to share.. Internal dimensions are 5-1/2"x1-1/2"x1-1/4"
  13. Some manu. examples of options.. Easier to get an idea of what you like / dislike when you can see what others have done and incorporate the parts of each that you like. http://www.all-glass.com/products/stands/pdf/mseries_oak.pdf PDF file on the stand and canopy.. Couldn't find the one canopy I wanted to show you where as mentioned the whole front half flips up and outta the way..
  14. Apparently the molly/platty fry grow up to be rather pushy when it happens too.
  15. Chatting with a fellow club member last night about my apisto pair and he has even had an apisto "fry-nap" his mollies and platties.
  16. While I am not running a pressurized unit myself yet I have looked at the red sea pro with soleniod setups a couple times both setup on a display tank at a BA's and at another club members and they seem like solid units and said individual was quite happy with it. The only diff between paintball and standard is the connector size for the tank so that shouldn't be a concern. Will probably be picking one of these up for myself sooner then later too.
  17. Thank You Goal is to keep them looking good and have em reproduce mini me's
  18. Here is the Male and the Female Just wanted to share..
  19. My plecs seem quite partial to plain old raw potatoe.. skin it slice it how ya want and rinse the excess starch off. Will sink on it's own with out weights or blanching.
  20. Was in a Princess Auto on the weekend and the "sand blasting" sand was rather cheap and will do nicely in a tank. Look for the bags tagged as silica sand or crushed glass. They should have a Princess Auto out that way somewhere..
  21. http://www.canadianfishforums.com/articles/slatecaves.htm Great article on semi natural looking slate caves for the DIY'r

    heaters???

http://www.bigalsonline.ca/BigAlsCA/ctl366...ewType=Category All those are submersible.. Not trying to promote BA's just was an easy list to pull up. I tend to buy either All-Glass or Jager (ehiem) heaters, some have had bad luck with the AG units but to date (touch bogwood) no issues with them here.
  23. Have been using both Ehiem and Fluval without issue. Oldest Fluval in the house at the moment and running strong is a 403 close to 8 years old. Haven't had the Ehiems as long but the oldest there is a 2215 over two years now without a blip. I do like the ehiem for back flush ability.(the classics at least, any with he intake tube connecting at the botom of the cannister will back flush easy)
  24. Lookin good. What ya got in there?
