  1. It is going to be a FW African cichlid tank, I have crushed Coral in my 55 and I found that it really scratched up the sides of the glass from the friction that the vac would cause? What about Pool fitler sand Vs Sand Blasting sand?? thanks everyone, still making up my mind!! Jods
  2. I have just bought a new 180gal tank and am trying to decide what kind of gravel and or sand to use, Im leaning towards sand as I have never used it before! Please leave all comment you'd feel appropriate... -ease of cleaning -cost -appereance -where you bought it and anything you feel I should know, or anyone else thinking substrate! Thanks everyone Jods
  3. Im dreaming of a bigger tank (180) and in Preperation I invested some cash seeing as I plan on having this puppy for awhile and went with 2 Eheim 2217's, I feel thier worth every penny. Jodaye
  4. Well I did Get a reply to my letter, not so much what I wanted to hear, but it is a response: Jodaye, Thank you for your message and concerns regarding your use of our medication Rid-Ich+. Please be aware that the federal EPA has recently urged all municipal water suppliers either to increase their level of chlorine in tap water to up to 4 ppm, or preferably to use chloramines (ammonia and chlorine) to kill all viruses and bacteria in the water. These components are highly toxic to fishes. As you may be aware, the position of the 8,000+ municipal water suppliers in the U.S. is that they are providing tap water for human consumption, and are not responsible for its potential detrimental effects on aquatic animals including fishes in home aquaria and ponds. Therefore, when making water changes, great caution has to be taken that toxins are not being allowed to harm your fishes. The best products that Kordon has to remove chlorines, chloramines and ammonia are its NovAquas and AmQuels. The most powerful is Amquel+ that removes over 30 ppm chlorines, as well as all ammonia and chloramines that could ever be found in tap, well, or natural water sources. The NovAquas (particularly the new NovAqua+) are recommended because they take out other toxins (such as the heavy metals in the water pipes) that are lethal to fishes, and add organic immune health aids needed by fishes to resist infections. Now the truth about medications. While we try to do our very best to provide the latest and most beneficial medications for aquarium fish, miracles cannot be performed. Whether the medications are for man or fish, they have their limitations. One of the most important is that in fishes many infections start internally, including in the mouth and gills, where they are difficult to diagnose until it is late in the infection period. This is equally true for protozoan parasites such as Ich, that often are not seen on the fish until it is very serious in the mouth and gills. We do not have any complaints on any of our batches (thousands of bottles of medications are produced and sold from each batch) so your problem is an isolated case. If you wish, please send your bottle of Rid Ich+ lot no. 09020408 with its contents back to us (see address below, marked to the attention of R3) and I will run tests on it and report back to you our findings. /.R3 Robert Rofen, PhD, Novalek, Inc., U.S.A. 2242 Davis Ct., Hayward, CA 94545-1114 tel (510) 782-4058 fax (510) 784-0945 Ah Well What to do??..... I did increase my amount of Prime added to the tank to remove cloramines etc...but I supose he didn't know that.....all the fish that died where healthy with no signs of desease...so I'll email him back and send in the bottle I supose....huh
  5. I feel your pain sister...still no idea what happened to my tank either..... -05-
  6. well I have emailed the manufacturer and asked what may have been different between the two bottles of the same product that may have killed all of my fish, will keep you updated as to a response this is what I sent: Hello, I have recently purchased a new bottle of your product and used it in my tank according to your directions and it killed 8 out of 16 fish overnight. I have been using the product for 7 days and had ran out and went to purchase a new bottle, exact same product I assumed. I was doing 25-50% waterchanges daily and there appeared to be no stress on any of the fish in the tank, until I woke up this morning. Here is the list of African cichlids that where in the tank: (highlighted in red are dead) 2 M. estherae(male/female) 2 C. Borleyi Kandango Red(1 male, 1 female) 1 Sciaenochromis Fryeri (male) 2 Pseudotropheus Elongatus “Mpanga”(1 male/1 Female) 2 Protomelas Taeniolatus (Juvies) 4 Synodontis Multipuncatatus(2 only dead) 1 Clown Pleco 1 Bristlenose Pleco the tank parameters are as follows: PH-8.4 Nitrite-0 Nitrate-less than 10 Ammonia-0 GH-150 KH-180 As you can see things seem to be normal and all I can think is that the product that I purchased to finish off the treatment, killed them. Rid Ich+ 16fl oz and the only # that i can find that may be a lot # is 09020408 There is no expiry date which would allow one to assume that the product would be good for at least 2 years, which is approxamitly how long I had the product for the begining of this treatment before purchasing the above mentioned product to finish off the treatment. These fish are worth a good fortune and I have spent alot of time and money on raising them, I would like some response as to how this may have happened. Jodaye
  7. Yeah I've done the salt thing before but found my fish would then get Bloat.....It's really a Lose Lose situation when it comes to desease in my tanks I find....but the one clown pleco was the only one showing signs of ICH and it was almost gone, this was like the final treatment to make sure it was out of my tank, and I've heard that you have to treat the whole tank with ICH as it will eventually spread to everyone anyways? I have 2 filters on this tank, an Eheim 2217 and a fluval 304, I think this is kinda over kill but Im seasoning the eheim for a bigger tank that Im hoping to have by the fall....Sufficeint O2 exchange, I think so? Thanks again for you help gang, not I have to get ready for the restocking, thinking I'll stick with the Mbuna as they seem to be the survivors, any one got any Ideas?? I still have the one Male Red Emp as he was in a seperate tank ready to be packed off to the pet store, but I'll keep him now, as the other 2 are DEAD!! arghh. I don't have ther rusties in the main tank as they got tuned when I had them in there orriginally, think I'll keep them in thier own 29 gal with some fry growing up....but what i have in there now is: 2 Metriaclima estherae (Red)(breeding group) 2 Pseudotropheus Elongatus “Mpanga”(1 male/1 Female) 2 Synodontis Multipuncatatus 1 Albino Bristlenose 1 Clown Pleco there's like an empty tank!,,,,ohhh god.
  8. ya I do my water changes by the 5 gal bucket and I add the prime in the correct amount directly to the bucket before it even hits the tank.
  9. ya thanks RD, I use the jungle strips for testing and I think it could be higher than 7.2 but its hard to tell the difference, does 8.4 sound more like it, cause it is really pink...anyways, it hasn't been the thing that changed....but I did open a new bottle of Rid ICH+ yesterday and used that, had the other one for over a year, didn't see an expirey date on it though, and it didn't seem to harm the fish.....I did however use the recomended dosage so I really don't know. I use Prime for water changes
  10. Woke up this morning to the majority of my tank litterally dead in the water/ Im on the 7th day of treating For ICH with Rid Ich +, I have been doing daily 25% waterchanges and did a 50% water change lastnight, have done this before with no worries in the past, but yesterday was a different day. I added the recommended treatment immediatly after the water change and went out for the evening...didn't even look at the tank last night, woke up this morning all all of my Hap's where dead and 2 of my syno's....the only thing left is the 2 pleco's ( which is the reason im treating for the ICH), 2 syno's and 4 mbuna, I'll attach the pics of the deceased as a loving memory.....but I don't get what happened, I checked all levels this morning and all where the same as before, but of course my nitrates are extremely low due to all the water changes PH-7.2 Nitrite-0 Nitrate-less than 10 Ammonia-0 GH-150 KH-180 This is a 50 Gal tank, and I've put alot of work in raising these fish, Im not so much sad but just really Pi**ed off!! Thanks all for the ears, and if you could offer some advice as to how to avoid this in the future, would be greatly appreciated. Jodaye
  11. No Worries Val, I should really know what to do, but ya know when ur just not sure??....
  12. Well I've added Rid Ich, it says it safe for scaleless, keeping a close eye on the sensitive ones and I hope it wirks!
  13. Well I noticed this little guy has some Ich looking spots on his body and finnage, but Im nost sure its ICH as no one else in the tanks has it...see list in signature Here are the tank parameter: PH-7.2 Nitrite-0 Nitrate-less than 20 Ammonia-0 GH-150 KH-180 I have the Jungle quick dip tests and Im not sure on thier accuracy....but I do 50% water changes weekly and its a 55gal tank! If it is ICH can you treat a pleco with Rid ICh? Jodaye PS there is also some syno's in the tank...I don't want anyone dead!!

  18. I just bought 2 eheim 2217's from Pet solutions, and they were $119.00 each = approx $148 can...even with the $35 for shipping and GST.....still paid over $100 less through them...check it out www.petsolutions.com Jodaye PD BigAlsonline has them for $289.99 can
  19. Hey Dunl, Glad thier haanging out nicely together, when he was with my other male they were constantly scraping!
  20. They got it about 4 years ago for a liquidation center, that from the mouth of my sister!! Jodaye
  21. My sister had the same tank...but it cracked and then the angels head from the top fell off...thats all I know!.....I upgraded them to a 15gal!! good luck, its a cool tank! Jodaye
  22. Hi Rahim, thanks for that little tid bit, but I did decide to go witht he eheim 2217's for the tank, i wish I had known that you could buy them though, I didn't even think to ask when I was out shopping.....do you know the approxament price of one for a 150gal?? Its too late for me but might be good for the pple reading to know this, have a fantasticly swimming day Jodaye
  23. Hey thanks for that site Rahim, seems though that it is still cheaper ordering through the pet solutions as well as they have the selection, and NLS food! I will however keep them in mind for future orders, we are putting together a group order from petsolutions so the shipping will be minimalized!! I decided on 2 of the eheim 2217's for the "BIG" tank that may not be built for a year or so, but i figure its better to start the exspensive collecting process earlier rather than later! ( an dperhaps I can add them to my 55gal and get the filter loaded so to speak! Unless ther eis someone willing to put together a sump for me!!
  24. 35.70 USD to have that shipped, not bad about 45 can I figure
  25. Well In my shopping today at Big Als I found the filstar xp3 @ $207.99 (94.99USD = 114.95CAN at Pet solutions) and the Eheim 2217 @ 199.99 (119.99 USD = 145.20 CAN at petsolutions) which is still about 50 dollars more than the petsolutions after the exchange, I'll still have to look into the shipping but Im gonna go with pet solutions if the shipping is cheap, well under 50 cause Im getting other stuff lie NLS and 2L prime for 32.99 USD=39.92 can...not bad if u ask me when I saw it at Big Als for 79.99 for the 2L!! Just thought I'd fill everyone in on the prices, I'll let you know about shipping! Im also looking for a tank, the one im leaning towards is the 125 (72"L x 18"W x 22"H) was at Big Als for $379.00, does anyone know of any cheaper prices out there??
