  1. Good for you Brad.....welcome to the money pit that is saltwater. For the second time....what happened the first time? Looking forward to seeing the progress. If there is anything I can help you with let me know.
  2. 150w MH(either hamilton 14k or ab aqualine 10k havnt decided yet.) and 2x 24w HO T5s for actinic.
  3. I hope so too Brad. You will have to start a thread to keep us all up to date. Thanks AGAIN shark. The camera Im using is a pentax optio 6.0 waterproof cam. Ive been very happy with the quality of the pics, considering that it was not a terribly expensive camera. Here is a sneek peek of the canopy that Im building.
  4. Ya I know shark....but Ive never been one for patience. I squeezed in another couple wee small zoa frags. I had to make a little frag bridge to get em in there. The g/f doesnt like how it looks, but I think it looks alright.
  5. I currently have a medium sized green monti cap and a yellowish scroll coral sitting in my frag tank waiting for me to try and find a place for them in the display. Will probably end up taking a frag off them and selling the mother colonies to try and squeeze them in. Like I said have been thinking of upgrading to one of my other tanks, but I just acquired a 150w mh pendant(with a 2x24w HO T5 retro fit kit for actinics) that I decided to build into a "floating" canopy for the 20g. Have got a prototype canopy built and floating over top the frag tank now. Just trying to work out all the bugs and decide if the light loss from it being suspended over the tank will bother me too much, before I make the final canopy out of maple. So Im not sure if I will be making the jump to the 55g just yet.
  6. Thanks again guys. Only so much you can do with 20g.Giving some serious thought into upgrading. Cant decide between converting my fw 55g (48"lx12"d x18t) or have a 40 cube made.well almost cube (24"x24"x16"t).Snaped this random pic the other day.
  7. Also make a good spot to hide some of your equipment (heaters, skimmer, uv,) and(if designed right)) to grow macro algae for nutrient export.
  8. Thanks alot Flip. I dont imagine it will be 20g for too much longer. And fts for shark.
  9. Cant help ya with the hair issue, and I have never used a whisper hang on filter before. But I can say that I still am running an Aquaclear 30 filter that I had on my first 20g tank about 15 years ago.
  10. The bad prt about them is they seem to chew right through the stem at the base. So in my tank they were kinda like the briggs&stratton powered lawn mower. Eventually they mowed all my plants right down. I love clown loaches to much to get rid of them so I decided the plants would have to go.
  11. Clown loachs ....bad for planted tanks, great for snail control. I have no experiencs with yoyos other than the rockin the cradle, walkin the dog type.
  12. Seachem prime can be use to bring down the levels of ammonia in an emergency. I thought about this after reading some reefers tank crash due to heat on another site. I'm gonna call it a gheto chiller. Lots of people have those gravel vacuums that connect directly to the tap. Why not take some of that clear tubing and connect it to a power head or small pump in a cooler half full of water. Then in a second cooler full of ice, coil up as much hose as you can,and then into the aquarium. Again coiling as much hose as you can in the aquarium. Then return the hose into the cooler with the pump to complete the loop. Does that make sense? It wouldnt be very pretty but I think it would work in an emergency.
  13. So sorry to hear about your loss. Tank was upstairs? Guess Im lucky that all my tanks are in the basement.
  14. I love stappersi/mealegris(sp?)Kinda makes me wish I hadnt sold mine.
  15. Whats wrong with those pics? They look great to me. Nice corals too.
  16. Dont think I've ever seen that combo before. Not sure what would happen. They both can be a little on the agressive side. I am of the opinion that Gouramis should'nt be listed as community fish by lfs. Have seen and read many stories of gouramis being vicious little buggers.
  17. nope unforunately the cool looking one at the far left in both pics ...the one closest to the glass
  18. Tank looks good, but just a heads up. You may want to ditch the conch type shells. They have a quickly tightening spiral that our little finned friends have been known to get stuck in.
  19. Well its been awhile since I posted any pics cause I've been waiting for the frag party I hosted to pass. So heres what I scored. A candycane frag(thanks Danny) and a blue polyped birdsnest frag(thanks Greg).
  20. That sucks dude. So sorry. I suffered through a tank "crash" a few months ago. I lost 12 or so fish in the span of 5 days right after I introduced a couple bosemani rainbows from a large pet chain(last time I buy fish from there).
  21. Just plain old jig and minnow. Nothin fancy. Seemed to work best when you just dropped over the side of the boat and left it alone. We caught probably close to fifty eyes and one pike( no fish tale). Went through allmost 4 tubs of minnows.
  22. Great pics Connie were did you finnally score your ocellatus? Beauty angels too.
  23. You'll have to check out my tanks when you come to the frag swap. You might get some small bit of inspiration. I've never really tried to do a planted tang tank, but I have seen it done. All the plants I tried just ended up getting ripped to shreds and floating around the tank.
