  1. The reason i ask is i fed my rays mainly frozen fish and shrimp and if i over feed it would mess up my tank very fast. Charcoal helps control the toxins in the water so i'm very fond of it with frozen foods. Is the tank clearing up at all yet?
  2. Also what do you feed your rays?, do you use charcoal in your filters.
  3. Rays love oxygenated water so that should be good is the water clearing up some on the tank a little with the one filter? Have you tested the water parmeters to see what negative effects there has been?
  4. do you have a good air pump on the tank?
  5. My rays, Datnoids and bass always preffered the cook shrimp more than raw? must have a better feel for them but thats just mine.
  6. Depends on what type they are but yes most snake heads will eat everything and are really agressive
  7. Go to walmart and buy a bag of frozen shrimp and use cut up pieces, thaw it in warm water first. My bichirs love it.
  8. Doesn't a glass shop around town have a piece of glass for you instead of ordering it? like a window shop or somthing? Isn't there a guy up there who makes tanks? i thought i had heard there was ask him for a piece you could buy.
  9. skynoch and Rudy would probably be your best place to ask questions they keep and breed rays them selves (lucky buggers) Experience with location and native waters here make them you best bet.
  10. Get this thing up and running and were going to have to set up a trip to edmonton and one back to calagry to check out a few of use big fish keepers tanks. I'm in for a trip.....i'll have to get the wife a day at the spa or somthing but its worth it...lol. How much longer till the glass comes in.
  11. My 6" longfin and my 6" albinos eat massivor pellets from Hikari and i feed them market shrimp choped up and they love it. Just feed them as much as they can eat and take out the left overs so it doesn't mess up your tank. Also keep up the water changes. The Bichir that amazed me was my Delhezi i put him in at like 6" and then never really seen him for months (hidding in the rocks) then one day i was changing the tank around and out swam this think 10" long bihcir, i had never seen him eat once but wow did he grow. i'm going to try to get some picture of them againg this weekend i'll post them if i can.
  12. Even i'm getting excited about this biuld i can't wait to see it finished...looks good
  13. Whats the water temperature? how often do you feed it? what kind of bicher is it? and male bichir have a larger anal fin compared to the females
  14. Just a qwick question? Are you feeding him feeders? if so watch the feeders for Ich they carry it quite often. I feed mine feeders just untill i can change over to market shrimp and pellets. Yours is actually at a good size to train for other foods.
  15. My rays ate 2 7" payara, and 2 red tailed baracuda????? who would of guessed i never thought the rays could catch them....till there was nothing but sparkles in the tank one night and a small red tail hanging out of my male rays mouth.
  16. Actually someone on here has successfully bred ornates before i believe. I have a pair or ornate around 15" long male and female that are inseparable but no luck yet....I keep mine with my Asian arowana, 6 Datnoids, catfish, tire track eel, and a pleco. I use normal tap water at about 82 deg f. 40% water change a week and lots of filtration on my 220 gal.
  17. I wont recomend this to anyone but i have sucessfully used Nox-ich on my loaches at half doseage. I would recomend the big als products for scaless fish which i have als had sucess with.
  18. Man i wish you lived here i would love to help you out. I keep alot of large Datnoids, there my favorite fish. When it happens and i'm sure you will find some one to help please post pictures....thanks.
  19. Yes i have to agree puffers are a little nasty towards other fish. I do believe that some Knife fish have a problem unless they are in spiecies tanks as well.
  20. I've soaked some in bleach then power washed them and they came alot cleaner...
  21. Very interesting i'm looking forward to see how the stand takes the stress. I'm interested in the crushing characteristics of the box tube or HSS (hollow structual steel). I noticed on the ends your legs don't run stright through on the bottom. They actually sit on top f the box tubing. IF nesscery you could also cap the ends of the box to add strength. before you put the tank and the glass and rocks on it figure out what everything added will weight then have a party an get all your friends to climb up there till you equal the weight needed....lol
  22. i for one will never be without prime. 4 years ago i never used prime for any water changes then one spring i lost 11 6-8" clowns i had for years.. everything else in the tank lived even the Botia but all the clowns dead in a 3 hour period right after a water change. When i checked the tap water you could smell the clorine which hasn't happened again since that year..
  23. Hey you can use what you want in there play sand will work. Most of us have used sand and we want to save you the trouble with your filters is all thats why we use somthing a little heavier.
  24. looking really good i'm still saving up to buy a RTG ....lol a super red would be great. I can't wait to watch the progress @$$ they change.
  25. Yes but all of my aro's, rays, and Oscars have eaten pellets so its not so bad. My datnoids still only eat shrimp and fish now that can get expensive.... I buy smelts from the fishing hole here in Calgary and have had great luck with them and my fish just ask Hybrid about my P-bass...lol make sure they aren't preserved in any way just frozen and they work good I'll get the name of them for you. like i said over a year and no problems.
