  1. I wouldn't assume that saving on shipping by buying locally would actually be cheaper then ordering from a large distributor, I have found in my business this is usually not the case. You can try medical supply distributors too... not sure of prices though.
  2. its probably fin too because you used water and media from an established tank, you could add quite a few fish I would think. Just dont go crazy.
  3. I recently got 7 Pseudotropheus sp. "Acei" (Msuli) (thanks Doc) and am wondering whats best to feed them. I read that they are herbivorous, and so tried them on a veggy wafers and a couple types of fresh veggies, but they will have none of it. They really do like NLSpectrum; is this ok? Can they digest the animal products? What do others normally feed them? Thanks
  4. I want to know what brand of light I should look at getting. I'm going to need a 30 inch unit for Cichlids, and was thinking 2 x 65 watt CF. I currently have units by Coralife (energy savers unlimited) which I think are quite horrible. My Unit is about 6 mo and the fans seem to be braking already. I have also heard of issues with the electrical clips braking when trying to replace the lamps. Coralife are inexpensive and that is partially why I got them (all that I could afford). Without spending huge amounts what brands should I look at? As I have learned the wisdom of buying a good unit once rather then many cheap units.
  5. Its just sad to think how quickly humans could screw it up even with out trying to hard... but interesting facts.

    Hi

Welcome, I'm new here too and everyone have been great! Local advice and no off-the-wall/overboard ideas like some sites that I wont mention.
  7. Tank Divider 18"x15" I can seem to find one large enough and i figure I should be able to make is cheaper any way. any suggestions on materials?
  8. My Jack has turned from nice and bold to a scaredy-cat. All he does is hide under a rock, and only eats once I have left the room. He used to eat right out of my fingers. I dont think I have changed anything to scare him and the water is good... my cat sometimes swats at him but thats nothing new and I try to stop it from happening. any ideas??

    Hello All

I guess I'm new to the hobby, only about a year in. I finally am getting connected to good people and advice. I have a planted 90g community tank and a 30g cichlid tank on the go (and hope if my wife lets me to start a couple more). I tell people I have a 52 inch high def flat screen but it only gets one channel FISH but thats ok with me.
  10. I believe that co2 is slightly heavier then the majority 02 n2 mix of the atmosphere. But I dont believe in a system with movement that it would settle out into layers. You would just be pushing out a diluted mix of co2. But it has been awhile since I've done mush chem.
  11. I don't mean to hijack this topic but what about Edmonton? I have a company that test my fire extinguisher for my store and I'm sure they can do it. But who is best/cheapest in edmonton?
  12. I would be very careful with excel, I believe a build up in my tank killed 2 fish awhile ago. I have heard that cats and rainbows may be very susceptible to excel. And I do not believe either that excel would help with that type algae as I still have some.
