  1. regardless of popular opinion any drift wood as long as it has been aged is safe for your tank you dont need to boil or bake it, all my driftwood comes from the river and all i've ever done is pressure wash it with water only no soap. a pressure washer gets into every nook and cranny of the wood and will blast off any old rotting pieces of wood you wouldn't want in your tank. do what ever your comfortable doing but there is a lot of misconception out there
  2. After bleaching you should rinse with vinegar. bleach leaves a toxic film behind. Lesson learned after purchasing some pecos that died in 10 minutes. point taken but what i was meaning was about the fish themselfs what do you treat the fish with?
  3. What does everyone use for destroying any bacterial and fungul deseases in there quaratine tank? is there a chem that is superior or stands out from others for new fish quarantine and does it have a fast turn around, as in putting new fish into your main tank as fast as possible?
  4. thank you everyone the fish are going back today the cysts are inside the fish and look like they are moving toward the surface of the fishs skin hopefully nothing has released into the tank yetthanks again for the advice
  5. I agree with Sue. Take them back asap if you can. thanks have you ever seen anything like this before?
  6. its wierd alright but ive never had rams before so im unsure they are quite happy eating well and all just wierd
  7. does anyone out there know if it is normal for german blue rams to have rice size lumps inside its body brownish pink coloured near the tail and near the dorsal fin 6 in one and about 4 in the other? there are still little fish and ive never had rams before so i really need to know so i can take them back if its not normal thanks
  8. I too use poly wool but I put it on the bottom of my sponge so i don't have to clean my sponge as often I also loaded up on boxing day with the wool that they put under them little towns and stuff, cut it to wrap half way up the sponge that way when ever it gets dirty(starts to float the sponge) just pull it off and put a new one on cost is probly a quarter cent each time and saves alot of my time and then bio cubes on top
  9. copper safe will not kill your pleco I'm unsure about your plants however,it is removable with carbon and it doesn't kill your benificial bacteria. Also water change water change water change there are also awesome disease diagnosis pages or links in the aa library Hope that helps you
  10. I did however find a really good site about fish disease that may help many on this forum. fish disease I inserted a link and called it fish disease just click on fish disease and it will take you there purhaps a good link to have a standing post on this forum
  11. there is nothing else in the tank just shrimp. it is just odd that before these little guys showed up myshrimp were breeding happily and when i noticed these little things shrimp started dieing and stopped producing eggs and haven't produced any since. They are to small to get a picture of them all I can say is they are about a grain of salt in size they kind of look like they have armor and all white and i'm noticing the shrimp have a really red spot near that yellow or green thing in there back and about a week after i noticed that the shrimp were dead. I'm scared to feed the shrimp to my cichlids cause I don't want anything like that in my other tanks just want to get rid of them little critters.I don't know for sure that these things are killing my shrimp but it seems very suspicious given the circumstances
  12. Hey everyone, I was curiose to know if anyone has seen little cridders that look like a grain of salt some are a little bigger but white as can be I have some in my shrimp tank they seem to love the driftwood and the glass. They are killing my shrimp one at a time its like they are lice or something,I don't know what will get rid of them, I have tried scrubbing everything but still some seem to survive then multiply. HELP
  13. could he have burned his nose on the heater? that is quite common
  14. You could try some romantic music maybe some candles and some shrimp on the menu lol sorry val couldn't resist I found with the jewels i had they did the same thing when iseperated them from the main tank as soon as I put them back in the main tank again they started to get all lovy dovy again don't know if it because of the other fish or what but I would try it hope that helps
  15. Jewel cichlids are egg layers. So the mom doesn't spit them like she would if she was a mouthbrooder. I'm not a fan of the turkey baster, I prefer sucking the fry out with the gravel vac tubing. Its easier and faster to suck them out and there is less rick of hurting them. heeheeheeheeheeheehee that kind of sounds BAD heheeheeheehe :banned: sorry just struck my funny bone
