  1. THATS FUNNY! -roll- thats what they get for such crappy service, or in your case, NO SERVICE! :chair: good for you
  2. every single time a ask for a price from a certan "big" chain store the employee responds the same way, i dont know. they bring someone else over and 9 out of 10 times they say, i dont know, i'll have to look it up. and some of the fish are so obvious even a beginner should know what it is. i dont even know why i ask cause 99% of the time they are WAY overpriced anyway! (now you all know who im talking about) DOH!!
  3. ebay. just bought 2 magdrive pumps for 220 inc s&h(1200gph & 1800gph). i priced them out at lfs and the best price on the pair was WELL over three hundie, just the 1800 gph was 300 by itself!
  4. a custom-cut top from any glass store shouldent cost more than about 20 bones
  5. no matter wich one you go with, they are verry easy to reinforce simply with well placed 2x4's.
  6. i've used long tweezers and a tailgrab before. just dont squeeze to hard and if he resists, abort mission, you'll just kill him. i've also hit the driftwood with a hammer lightly before and he just fell out
  7. I have used aquagiant sand before without any issues... big als has black sand as well but aquagiants was cheaper.. everything in his store is downright cheap. problem is its all from china, not exactly high on quality. i bought some offshore lights from him and there still going strong 4 months later. has anyone bought any of his monster tanks from him? just curious
  8. thats still 25 bucks cheaper than big-a's even with shipping and all taxes. thats works out to buy 3 get one free. i talked to spencer yesterday and he only has 2 pails left and is going to keep it for himself. he said he MIGHT make one more order so if he does i'll be sure to let everyone know and we can do a big order(and split shipping) thanx
  9. who has the best price on nls 5lb pails? i used to get it from spencer jack for sixty bucks but he discontinued nls and i've only seen the 5 lb pails at big-a's for a hundie, 40 bones more. who's paying what from where for the big pails? i have no problem shopping elsewhere or even importing a bunch if the price is right.
  10. you're lights dont appear to be helping either. looks like awfully intense light for such a small tank. try difusing or dimming your light or even putting a lower wattage light and that will slow the overgrowth for sure
  11. i agree, it looks awefully small for a 225, but looks can be decieving, what are the dimentions?
  12. im pretty sure they would be happy in EITHER tank.
  13. that would be the ONLY way to go! anything less would be an injustice to such an over the top awesome tank. thats not his only monstrosity either, he has others believe it or not, check out the site. someone said it must of cost thousands, try at least A HUNDRED THOUSAND. the excavating and concrete alone are in the fifty g range, not to mention the steel, glass, lighting, filteration and all other direct and indirect costs, MIND BOGGALING! he is in southern ontario i believe. TRULY AWESOME!!
  14. nice job dude! its incredible how easy it is to diy,and yet some people spend hundreds, even thousands to do what you just did. i also make all my own trickles, it is SOOO easy and verry cheap to do.
  15. chances are youre not gonna be able to buy the glass for less then you can get the tank built. the builders can get glass WAY cheaper than anyone else(volume) so you might as well leave it to the experts and save a potential disaster. check monsterfishkeepers.com and look at some of the broken tank pics. leave it to the pro's, its money well spent
  16. if your happy with it, then case closed
  17. you can never know to much about your water conditions. better to know to much then not enough!
  18. i've posted several wanted ads for livestock and believe me, they get answered, FAST! just post when your ready to buy and you'll see. keep watching and you can get an idea who is breeding what. im a newbe and i've met MANY private breeders off this site. and alot of the breeders are VERRY serious bout it, more than just hobby breeders like myself. the admin might seem like whip-crackers, but its cause of them this site is so clean and organized.
  19. there is one place and one place only to get sand. sil silica (sil industries) take the 17 st turnoff off yellowhead east and take your first left. they have MANY types, grits, and i think even colour. a 100 pound bag is about ten bucks. its the blue and orange buildings, cant miss it
  20. metal halides are overkill for just about anything. you can get the same spectrum and almost the same intensity from vho's at a fraction of the operating and replacement cost.
  21. ive used lexan and found that it frosts up and looses its transperancy over time. custom cut glass for that tank cant be more than about 15 bucks. nice work with the jigsaw!
  22. 2 prongs means its not grounded. if it falls in the tank, unlikely, but never say never, it wil turn your tank into a small powerplant/shockhazard. just put it on a gfci powerbar and you should be ok.
  23. i've found riverfront to be the cheapest for glass tanks, by far. not sure about starfire though. think you'll need a weelbarrel full of loonies no matter where ya go.
  24. those plug-in's dont look grounded(3 prong),, are they?
  25. i've used these before, they are verry acurate and easy to calibrate yourself. would definitly use again
