  1. Free - just happens to be my favourite name brand :smokey: Insert a little math here. You may use around three refills a year on that set up. Check around. Find out the price of customer owned vs. rented refills and take it from there. Why come? I know nothing about Jd's ( OK, I know the abbreviation  ) Are they diggers? aggressively Vegan? I see no need to empty the tank. Utilizing the miracle of syphon; with a stolen hose off of your vaccuum cleaner, you can remove the existing substrate in about thirty seconds. Add new substrate, plant, top off. Done Place your diffuser below a pump output, ya really need to blow the gas around. :flex:
  2. BBA is strange stuff. It is sturdy. Even if this algae is not blooming; the skeletons can remain to be seen for weeks afterwards. Every aquarium is different but , , , In my tank with extreme high light and abundant C02 the BBA can be used as an indicator. If I start to see BBA, I increase KNO3. Even with 10+ W/G this regime reliably keeps the beard @ bay.
  3. There are differing opinions on this topic. The poll addresses to schools of thought. . Is it the size of the bubble? - or the lengths it travels ? What have you done to strech your CO2 dollar?
  4. Post-humously Due to some overzealous pruning idiocracy I no longer have this plant. I once bought a (de-hydrated) Madagascar tuber; alas it did not sprout Hopefully I will have some again. . .
  5. Kinda hard to read, thats 41.00 + + + = $50.00 and thats a 5 Lb. Century Vallen will fill them. But they want to "pressure test" a customer owned bottle. So first time I went it was 35 then the second time out comes "the tester" himself, says it has to be done and its twenty five more bucks. I go home Still scratching head
  6. $15.00 ? Wow. Forgive me if I find that hard to believe.
  7. http://tinyurl.com/27ue7gf It is the third one down - Regulator/Flowmeter, Carbon Dioxide, Model HRF1480-320 You will also need a male barbed output fitting , , , tubing, , , and yah , ,thats about it. Strangely enough it is cheaper to fill a larger cylinder than an odd small one. Do not fall in the 5Lb trap.
  8. Lucky Ducks ! I have never kept Gourami; so I have no experience specificly. Sounds like they are being well attended. :welcome: Welcome to the Forum :welcome:
  9. The African dwarf frogs are the last to eat - with every combination I have ever tried
  10. That rumour is not true - I prefer to give them away ;)

I will shoot you a PM

  11. , , , your tank specifically - is how long ? , , , you have a one light hood ? A T5 39 watt would only fit in a 36 inch fixture. If you are only looking for a bulb to go in the hood you have, then the wattage will be restricted to what the ballast hosts. ( the replacement bulb will be identical in wattage to the one you already have.) I have a twenty gallon that came with the standard fixture , it holds a t8f15 bulb. With a pce of glass for a canopy I added two more identical fixtures for a grand total of 45 watts. Thats just over two watts/gallon - about right for diy C02 The fixtures are , , ,like , , ,10 bucks each @ the hardware store. I hear hagen has a new substrate - looks interesting
  12. Aqueous solution of polycycloglutaracetal Yes, you can brew 'yer own Sorry for the mis-direction I was implying that you can brew your own excel. DIY C02 is a caucus race. , , , Hours of boring frustration and @ the end of the day you are no further ahead. :bang1:
  13. They look fantastic on this monitor  , , , do your shoelaces take batteries?
  14. Good tip FISHLIPS thnkx

  16. I have been following this thread with great interest. , , , I am still waiting for someone to 'whip it out' Ya' know - " hey: look what I did with excel " I am still curious in regards to the original question What does the manufacturer claim ? I have never used the product. C02 in the aquarium yields carbonic acid {?} Is this the action of excel ? Can I make it at home ? Gluter, , , what is this stuff? Why does it work? This statement rang true for me - I would lean this way. Yet, I know not why I have seen some stunning photo's of non-C02 aquariums are they on steroids excel ?
  17. Do the breakers trip and re-trip ? They do make exstenion cords that long. Shouldn't be to tough to find 100 footer. If you need longer than that buy two or - buy a male and female end and alot of wire. DIY + electricity + Fishclub♀= ? :well: Please check in later , , ,
  18. Try plant recipe plant bottle That will get you started
  19. , , , Did you pack these fish yourself ma'am ? , , , and did you leave them unattended for any amount of time ? :shifty: , , , and , , , wait for it , , , , , , do you suspect that any of the Yucatans are holding?
  20. Further down the spiral LED MH
  21. "Super bright " does not appear on this list Value equals lumens per dollars. I bought an 800 Lumen bulb yesterday. @ three dollars it is 266/lumens per dollar. This looks like almost Fifty bucks all said and done. Say its only forty. 40 X 266 = 10'640 Lumens Is this unit over 10'000 Lumens ? PS this whole equation ignores power consumption - -05- first things first
  22. Good to see 'ya Iceturf - did you leave the Hat? I have read further that the required light intensity is fractional with the absence of water. PS. Thanks for the sig FC♀
  23. True - so whats the big deal ? I see articles on emersed growth left and right. Why ? What am I missing ?
  24. I was going to recommend the ' no brainer ' - females ,,,although I do not know if that meets the criteria
