  1. Adult males reach between about 6 and 10 inches (in the body, not counting the tail). Young ones can be found relatively cheaply: $10 to $20 with the price growing with size to as much $80 to $100 for really nice specimens in the 20 cm range. They generally ignore other species but will sometimes bite chunks out of smaller fish during feeding or if the smaller fish attempt to interfere with courtship. If you want to breed them, a 6 ft, 120 gal tank is minimum - and that will require careful monitoring once the eggs are laid. Breeding is better in 300 gal and larger tanks and (I am told) quite easy in a pond If you have just one in a tank, you can probably get away with a 4 ft, 72 gal tank. You can even have a few other fish in there as long as you give him a cave to go and be grumpy in... For (a lot) more information, you can check out <a href="http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aquai...a_bleekeri.html" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aquai...a_bleekeri.html" target="_blank">http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aquai...a_bleekeri.html</a></a> That is what you see in the video. I also have about a dozen of <a href="http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aquai...ia_polleni.html" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aquai...ia_polleni.html" target="_blank">http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aquai...ia_polleni.html</a></a> and their babies are doing well. I'll have 10 to 100 of these available in a few months if you are still interested at that time. Thanks. David Are you still breeding these??? I am from Calgary and cant seem to find any around here. I heard they were rare?? Thank you. Brian
  2. I was just wondering if anyone breeds the Paratilapia polleni? What an awesome fish. I cant seem to find them in Calgary.
  3. Have you tried Golds? They can build a tank for cheaper than a prebuild!!
  4. I had the same problem with the panty hose thing and the Aqua Tech filters.... I got so fed up I went and got an Acua Clear 70 and have had no problems since. I keep the intake as short as possible and I have not had any fry sucked into the intake.... I have 4 batches of fry in a 20 gallon tank and all are doing fine. The fry are now 3 weeks old and all are doing great!! I would look at getting an AC70 from your LFS...I just bought one and it was $39.95...I cant say the name of the store on here but if you PM me I will tell you where I got it from....
  5. I would say cut the log open as well.If that is not acceptable I would leave it in the tank till he came out on his own...
  6. I am guessing an Electric Blue Jack Dempsy??
  7. 3 males and 9 females in one tank and 7 juvies (Mpimbwe Blues) in another tank. I can only dream of a 300 gallon!!!
  8. Ebay is a good site but being an old Ebayer myself there is a system to beat the Ebay selling fee's.... Ebay charges a percentage on the final selling price,so if a seller sells a part for $15.00 and it is a $50.00 part the seller only pays the selling cost on $15.00. However the seller makes up for his loss on the shipping charges.... It always looks good till the outrageous shipping costs. I have bought stuff on ebay and paid $20.00 for shipping only to get my parcel 2 weeks later in the mail in a used padded envelope with less than $2.00 postage stamps on it....I think it is just better to buy in Canada,it all works out the same in the end after shipping and duties ect....
  9. Concidering the cost to get it shipped to Canada are the parts really that much cheaper?
  10. I have a bit of a problem that maybe someone can help me out with......My Frontosa's wont eat anything but Blood Worms (Frozen type) I tried Frozen Krill,Pellets,NLS,Flakes,Crisps,Frozen Brine Shrimp and they wont eat them.I was told that too many blood worms will cause them to bloat?? I ussually just feed blood worms as a treat to all my fish but if I dont give the fronts blood worms they wont eat!! Is this normal? Are Frontosa's fussy eaters? I am new at the frontosa so I am still trying to figure them out. Thanks. FRONTSROCK!!
  11. I would suggest Aquarium salt aswell!! Good point. I use it in all my tanks as a preventive measure. FRONTSROCK!!
  12. A couple of pics of the kids.
  13. Hello Anna.Welcome back to the hobbie!! Good luck to you!!
  14. I was at Golds today and they said that also that the females are more colorfull when mating??? I didnt know about the top fin though..I will check mine again!!! LOL... Maybe I have 2 females instead of males!!! Thanks FRONTSROCK
  15. Well Thank you everyone....I will be going to look them up on Ebay. I met someone who used one for his fish tanks but it was a very slow process as it didnt make enough water. When you have to do a 30% water change on a 90 gallon it could take a long time to get enough water!! Thanks again.... Frontsrock!!
  16. Both of my Jewels are alot darker Red than the one you have pictured.I wish I had a camera to take a picture of them... I am thinking I have 2 males...The saleman who sold me them told me it was a male and female!! I am starting to wonder???? The one is bigger than the other but besides that they look the same. My fingers are crossed!!!
  17. I am looking for info on a RO Water system. I read a bit about it on this site but I am not sure what they are exactly. Any help would be great,Thanks. I heard that some only make like 3 gallons per day??? Is that true?? Can you get ones that produce more?? Thanks again.... FRONTSROCK!!!
  18. That is an awesome story!! I am supposed to have a Male and Female (That is what I bought) and had no luck with mating them. I wish you the best of luck with them. If you ever find you would like to get rid of a few please let me know as I would be interested in getting some. The Red Jewels are awesome fish and congrats to you!!!
  19. XP's...I use 3 - XP3's on my 55,80 and 90 gallons,Can't go wrong... I also use AquaClear 110 on my smaller tanks....
  20. From my past experiences Gold's and Franco's are the best and the staff are very knowledgeable. Lately I have been purchasing from members of this site for livestock. Equipments prices and food prices are best at Gold's I have found. I stay away from the franchises (Dept store types) Check out the Livestock threads on here, lots of great quality, variety and healthy fish for sale right here!!
  21. Have you called Crystal Glass or even some windshield places like Apple Auto or Standard?? Worth a try...I know I would try them!!
  22. Good morning. I believe you but this is just to get started.Plans are to get something along the lines of a 250 gallon in the near future. Now if you could just tell my girlfriend that, we could have the 250g tomorrow!! LOL!! Thanks for the heads up!! FRONTS ROCK!!
