  1. Neat, it look's like it's been run over.
  2. The price at Big Al's is 89.99. I took a couple of pics with my camera phone for you guys, I'll post them once I get home and set-up the bluetooth/usb transmitter/receiver that I have. They have two left.
  3. I too haven't fed my jardini any live food as feeders from places like PJ's could carry desease also, the last thing I want is to train my jardini to chase fish around the tank, when he gets to 2 feet he could be a real tank buster. Allan, until my jardini reached around a foot he would shy away from all of the fish too. Crazy when you see him run away from a 2 inch severum happily swimming in the tank. Now that he is larger he can often be seen poking his head into a cave to make sure that the other fish know he's the boss. Even though I haven't see any real agression in him none of the other fish have really challenged him, if pushed I can imagine him killing any of the fish in the tank with ease. I too have heard (and seen pictures) of a foot long jardini beating the crap out of a stingray, just be warned.
  4. I have a 15" jardini in a tank with the severum in my avatar. The strange thing is that the severum picks on the jardini from time to time sucking off about 5 scales at a time. It all depends on the jardini, they are regarded as the most aggressive of aros. My guy only picks on gold severums, (doesn't care about green severums, convicts, catfish cichlids, bichers). If I put a gold severum in the tank it will be dead within a week.
  5. I bought him three weeks back, he was (still is) about 12". I wish I could get Big Al's Edm to price match Golds.
  6. I know what you mean, my wife gets about 2 m.p.g. LOL (Just kidding honey :boxer: )
  7. Man it took me ages to work out what the "****" stood for, not an expression you would use in England too often, went right over my head. LOL!
  8. Cool looking cat, I'll have to keep my eyes open for one.
  9. Looks like I need to find this guy a new home. He's currently 12" and my Jardini is around 15", it won't be long before he starts seeing the aro as food. Only thing is who has room for a fish that would get 4 feet long? D4mn Big Al's
  10. Shoot, I wasn't told it would get to 4 feet, the guy at big al's said about the same size as my jardini arowana when it's fully grown. :chair: Silly impulse purchase. Will they survive in the Saskatchewan River? Just kidding. EDIT: Thanks for the info Rudy
  11. I'm a little confused about my guy, he was sold as a tiger shovelnose at Big Al's (he's obviously not the expensive type) he was $69.99 They have a true tiger cat that they want 799.99 for. Can anyone explain why mine is also called a tiger cat, are there variants? Mine looks like this http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/pimel...udopl/329_2.php ... and not like this http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=3546 Canucklehead, my guy will eat anything he can fit in his mouth, he's about 12" and has already eaten a 2.5" convict in one go, you should have seen his belly!!!
  12. I was wondering if anyone out there is keeping one of these and if they would like to share their experiences with the fish. Just picked one up about 4 weeks back. 12" http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/pimel...udopl/329_f.php :well: ~Reza~

    Jardini

Rudy, how's the aro doing? You got him at a very good proce, I paid $100 for my 2" guy at Big Al's Edm a couple of years back. True he has very nice red colouring, it was just very stressful getting him to eat the first couple of weeks. I hear the rule is not to buy an aro under 5", whoops!
  14. Wandj My Jardini outgrew it's 4' tank, in short Medicdude got a cheap 90 gallon with stand and I had to buy a 6' 135 gallon a few weeks back. Sure it gets expensive but my wife agrees a large arowana swimming back and forth in the large tank looks great. I'm not looking forward to moving the jardini when I buy a house, right now he is 14" but when he gets to 18" I'm going to need a new net!
  15. Sorry all, I was thinking about the wolf cichlid, the wolf fish has a face only a mother could love. Good luck ordering some though.
  16. I started off feeding my 2" jardini mysis and treating him with dried earthworms or crickets (can be bought from Big Al's/Petsmart). After some time, 3 months I think, he would pick at the cichlid pellets I put in the tank for my other fish. When he hit about 5" and realised he was the king of the tank he would come to the surface unafraid of the cichlids and eat the floating pellets. I always feed him clams/mysis/earthworms as a staple but if he is hungry he'll eat the pellets. Just give it some time, perhaps putting a couple in his tank 15 minutes before you feed him the frozen food might help. In time he may eat some. The nice thing about getting them to eat pellets is that when I am camping my friends only have to feed him pellets. Strange how some people don't like getting near freeze dried crickets. LOL
  17. Hey, I am thinking of getting a wolf cichlid too. I saw one at Big Al's about 6 months back, (opposite the tank with the large catfish in, about 18") anyway, the fish was off the hook, biting the glass and clearing ALL the gravel to the one side. My wife thought it was a little agressive and I didn't want to explain to her why all of my fish dissappeared if I had bought him. Walking by the tank and leaving him there was a mistake. Stupid me!!!!
  18. I really like the pile of rocks, did something simalar in my 90. ~Reza~
  19. I agree that the asians are far nicer than the jardinis with only having 5 scales from top to bottom instead of the seven with the Australian relatives. Makes for larger and more beautiful scales. I just can't justify the $1000 price tag for an average juvie. Oh Toirtis, I too would love a X-Back. One day!!!! I feed my guy shrimp, crickets, squid and have trained him to eat floating cichlid pellet food. Obviously not a good food to eat all the time, however it does make it easy when I go away and my friends don't like feeding live crickets etc.
  20. I have my Jardini in a 90 at the moment, he is still shorter than the 18" depth of the tank so he can stay there for a little longer. A 6' is for sure a must for aros. I picked mine up from Big Al's 18 months ago when he was about 2", he's about 12" now. I heard that once they reach around 10" they really start to grow quickly. He/she has IMO really nice colouring, atleast compared to ALL of the Jardinis I have seen in pet stores, why are so many white with ragged fins??????? You can see a picture of him when he was bought and about 5 months ago here: http://s6.invisionfree.com/AlbertaAquatica...topic=512&st=15 ~Reza~
  21. Hi all Just wondering if anyone out there has an arowana, particulalrly the asian/australian type. Would like to see some pictures and discuss what foods you feed them. I'll post a couple pics of my Jardini later. I have such a hard time taking photos of him with my Canon A80. ~Reza~
  22. Sounds like a good idea to me. I have seen some people use power heads placed strategically around the bottom of the tank to help with currents. Some people have enough that they claim pretty much all waste is kept off of the substrate and ends up in the filter, leaving a fairly clean tank.
  23. Sweet deal, check out the price on the link below!!!!!!! http://www.riverwonders.com/catalog/i111.html
