  1. I have been told marineland may just be a re-branding of sunsun. Maybe save a few bucks?
  2. I have become interested in endlers and have not seen them in the shops. Maybe you could sell me a few?
  3. Edmonton water always had ammonia in it.. happens when you break the chloramine bond. no big deal. my plants suck it as fast as it goes in.
  4. I have a red blue. It didn't do very good with water hyacinth or water lettuce. Some low light underwater plants did very good. I'm not using it anymore.

    Driftwood

So I was out walking my dogs with my dad along the North Saskatchewan river when we spotted two great pieces of driftwood. I might also mention that the water looks spectacularly clean. I did not think it would be. I know that a couple of you have used this method in the past and was wondering what you did to condition the pieces. They are already water logged while in the river. They are much too big to boil unless someone has a giant pot to lend out.
  6. Just a further thought for anyone importing.. Orijen has had to recall their cat food from Australia. This is because upon entry to Australia, the cat food was exposed to high levels of gamma radiation. No other countries are affected by this recall, and Orijen has now stopped selling their product in Australia. You might be surprised how often the company I worked for wouldn't receive an item due to gamma radiation and shipped it back.
  7. A very long time ago when I worked at the auto wreckers we used to use gas to clean stuff. It pretty much evaporates. Though I don't know what residue is left behind. If it wouldn't damage the part you could give it a bleach dip then a vinegar dip. See if it still smells after that.
  8. Since I don't have any gauges to check myself. Just wondering what 1 tablespoon salt per 5g of water equals in ppm?
  9. When the wife is away you run another panel from the main line. You can technically hide it somewhere else. Though I'm not sure of local safety laws.
  10. Not sure exactly what you're looking for. But around Edmonton you can buy huge rolls of sponge or floss for cheap. I just cut mine to fit whatever filter I have. You can even sew in pockets for charcoal.
  11. Not one of my favorite brands. I've had success with millenium air.
  12. I suppose that's a risk you take buying anything from the guy down the street. Seems rather odd that street drug abusers have an easier time finding levamisole than us fish doctors =).
  13. What does your water stink like? rotting eggs?
  14. Without knowing all the details Edmonton generally has very high alk and ph of 7.8. So what are you doing to the water? You could mix in some baking soda(slowly). Do a water change to add edmonton tap water back in. You could add crushed coral to your filter. Don't ph shock the fish trying to do it too fast though. A list of chemicals you use with your tank could help us figure out your problem. There is one chemical on the market that gives you a false alk reading after using it and appears to be gone.
  15. Who are all you kidding? You were odd before the tanks. And among some of the nicest people I've ever met. The addition of more tanks just makes you eccentric!
  16. I've been using the sunsun ones off e-bay. Though you can check with source aquatics. Very inexpensive and still working great. Sometimes I wrap them in a filter mesh for extra filter capacity.
  17. A really bad smell sometimes means h2s. There are a few other types of wood that would also be unacceptable for a tank such as pine and cedar. pine contains turpentine. cedar contains anti-fungals. cedar when rotting under the water can smell really bad. Also a strong wood smell means wood oil which is toxic to your fish. tannins however(dark water coloration) are harmless.

    RO System

Looks similar to the one I purchased. You probably have to assemble it yourself. You'll need someone who's got plumber experience to help put it together(pay attention to the arrows which indicate the flow of water). Remember that for every gallon it produces of pure water, it sends about 2 gallons down the drain. As the filters get older they'll let a lil more alkalinity seep in. Still good for the aquarium. good tap pressure is required for these to work right. My recommendation is to mix some ro water with tap water. Because you need the other trace elements or you could buy more products from the store to do this.
  19. It's the reality anywhere in the fish business. the pleco species has more work to be done for proper identification. It's possible to get unidentified species. I once bought 15 blue rams under the label of tiger barbs. The guys at the store had no idea what any fish were. price difference of $15 to $3 each. They even took the time to look up the fish and warn me about how aggressive it can be.
  20. It was more like a flame war than anything. I support the mods.
  21. The only time I had fungus was when I also had a nitrite spike. Check your water. As per your photos I had that growing in my tank with no ill effects on any fish. What fish food are you feeding?
  22. They have no shots. It's on the agenda.
  23. Meet our new dogs. 2 boys. Tanker and Spike he was already named Tanker when we got him, hopefully there is room for two in Leduc =) I tried the different spca and whatnot online. I didn't get many replies to e-mail. And with my disorder using the phone is rather difficult. We eventually bought these two off kijiji. A farmer had a litter. Younger than I would have hoped but they are close to being house trained. Very smart dog.
  24. What are you trying to say Baos? They exist elsewhere and not needed here? Example of review gone bad? Example of review gone good? Damn the man? Sign Sign everywhere a sign. Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind. Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign? They exist. No one is threatening to sue over it. In this case their customer service and store policies are in question.
