  2. Pretty busy with some shutdown work right now but once I get all my ducks in a row I'll start a thread.
  3. I've seen all 3 colours for sale... I'm gonna take my receipt back and see if they'll still honor that price, I gave them my card when I bought mine but there was no discount applied
  4. Well if it's anything like my FX5's,....I have to have one
  5. Problem being there is only 6"x6"s of workable area under the top cover, 9" bulbs are way too long. This has become more than just another aquarium and is quickly turning into a challenging project.
  6. A couple pics to give everyone a better idea... FLUVAL EDGE in black... top off... lights turned up... side profile...
  7. You read my mind. I was wondering where CO2 could go. And how to get rid of the halogen lighting. Looking forward to see what you can do with this sucker... CO2 and the canister are the easy part, the hoses can be run up inside the back and all hiden in a 3 foot pedestal type cabinet I already have. I think I'll use a glass diffuser and glass tubing inside the tank. I also have a eheim 2213 but am worried it may create too much current in this little setup...?
  8. No Heater, which is too bad. Tank measures 17"x9"x10" or about 6 US gal. excellent finnish I'm not going to use the edge filter, I'm gonna use a smaller canister unit, under gravel heat and CO2 injection which will all be hidden in the stand... Upgrading the lighting may be a challenge though...I'm really excited about this little project.
  9. Call me a yuppie but I just picked one up at Petsmart on the west end for $179.99, it's black and they have one more there...might set it up Tuesday or Wednesday for shirmp and some neons...
  10. Which one, I drove around today trying to find one...None on the south side at either "PJ's" nor "Petsmart"... Did you see a price on them? I've found US retailers online listing them @ $150 USD...If I could find one for a comparable price I'd own one today...
  11. Nice, I'd buy one... http://www.hagen.com/pdf/aquatic/Fluval_EDGE.pdf
  12. They are hard to sex when they are young but once they are mature it becomes a much more obvious, the males sex point almost straight backwards and the females straight down. If I had more time I'd post some pics to help you out....If you have some reading time, this is a great thread on the BR's, loads of pics and info... BOLIVIAN RAM CLUB
  13. Nope, you got me there, spreading false info, I'm bad for that... I've seen this in my own Oscar tanks. I've also read this issue on several Oscar specific forums, but as far as Hard evidence to provide for you today...
  14. Just want to add another tid-bit about live feeders,...If you are having aggression issues now, live feeders will make your fish more aggressive as nurture their "Prey Drive".
  15. How big of a tank do you have them in? As a general rule Oscars requires a minimum of 50g each (3xO=>150g), with Heavy filtration and frequent water changes (50% once or twice per week) to keep them happy/healthy.... They also may need some space of their own, if your first red O had been used to being the solitary fish in the tank and the others have no space to hide then they may never get along, this stressful situation could lead to very sick fish and/or one of them getting killed. If your tank is big enough there are a few thing you can try... *lower the temp. *remove the fish from the tank, re-arrange the tank and introduce them to a neutral space, then one may not feel his/her space is being invaded. *add dividers to you tank to keep them separated *add some driftwood to break the lines of sight and add hiding spaces If you can't meet these needs then it would be best to return the fish to your LFS, Good luck, B
  16. I think it depends on what you are using them for...I have 3 FX5's, 2 XP3's, 2 Eheims, and one 205 ..The FX5's are great for larger tank where you want a higher volume of flow, I have two of them on my 120g Oscar tank (over kill) two XP3's on my 120g planted tank, a small ehiem on a 20g planted. a PRO-II on my 55g Dayglow tank and an eleven year old 205 on a mixed 33g,...All of them work well and none of them have given me any issue. I have to agree, the RENA XP3's are the best bang for the buck, simple, reliable and inexpensive. The Ehiems are nice but IMHO not worth the extra money over the RENA's. If you need a workhorse for a larger tank, the FX5 has no real competition.

  20. I've been feeding my two Oscars the NLS XL Fish Formula (7.5mm floating) for quite some time now, My Tiger is about 9" and the red's a little larger at about 10". My Tiger always has a large portion of pellet expelled out of her gills where the Red doesn't have this issue. I also have NLS 3mm and 4.5mm so just for fun this morning I tried them....end result, the Tiger has almost no food expelled with the 3 or 4.5mm, I guess I need to pickup some more 4.5mm. Thanx for the education RD.
  21. I'd go back to BA's and pick up some "Seachem Stability" do a large WC and dose the tank with the Stability for the next week...
  22. Just make sure the penny is older than 1996 (98% copper), anything newer than that doesn't have much real copper in it...only 4.5%:smokey:

You can tie down some Java Fern or Anubias to rockwork or driftwood, they're both nice lowlight plants... this is Java fern tied to DW in my Oscar tank, no co2, just some liquid ferts and excel...
