  1. OH, I'm sorry to hear that. She's a big girl. How old was she?
  2. Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait a week. Seems like such a long time. Enjoy Mexico, I don't know about Edmonton, but we just started getting snow here in Calgary yesterday so perfect timing on your part.
  3. Hello and :welcome: to AA. Everyone here is very knowledgeable and always to answer any questions. They're the best group of fishy people I know.
  4. I'm just curious which LFS you all like to do you shopping at, and why? Myself, I've been to Pisces and Big Al's because they're closest, but I enjoy going to Pisces the best. I find their prices are a little cheaper than Big Al's.
  5. So you add the Prime while you're adding the water? Not before or after. ACtually, does it matter when you add the Prime? Oops, am I hi-jacking this thread? Sorry.
  6. Thanks Boom for the link. I went there on my own and found a place to do some wood working but it involves applying to a woodworking course ($300). If anyone else is interested here's the link: http://www.chinooklearningservices.com/Con...fHouseHome.html I'm going to have to talk to the wife about this, she may want to join herself. Thanks to all who replied & helped find this place. Especially you Boom, without your linklead I would never have found this place.
  7. So you add your new water first, then the prime? I would have thought you'd add the prime first then the water so that the chlorine gets neutralized as soon as it enters the tank.
  8. So when doing a WC on a LARGE tank, how do you treat the water? Remove dirty water, add Prime, then add new water from tap, or some other method? I mean a WC in a large tank can be around 30G, where could you put all that water to let it airate? That's what I do for my 32G but I only change 15L (one bucket)at a time, & that's easy.

    Hi

Hello and :welcome: to AA. The people here are great, they'll be able to help you out in almost any question, they've been able to help me with all my silly questions and ideas.
  10. I wish by default it was turned on. I some times forget to check the boxes and then later on, I wonder if I sent the email or not too.
  11. So I was hoping to build a DIY stand but I don't have access to the equipment or space needed to do this. Does anyone know if there's a place in Calgary that'll rent out their shop space and equipment to do some fab work? I don't know if it exsists but it'd be a great idea for DIYers like myself.
  12. Oh and about getting a 50+G tank; watch this site's equipment threads for some good deals and also look on Kijiji. I picked up my 118G with stand for only $200. There were other items as well, HOB filter, heater, ect., but they don't work so well. Great deal though.
  13. Hello and :welcome: to AA. Our family loves animals too. We've got: -2 dogs (A female sheppard lab cross and a male Chit-sue (sp?)) -1 cat (a tabby cross) -1 cockatiel (A gray-pied cross) -and a 32G planted fish tank and a 118G not set up yet. We'd probably have more but we live in a little townhouse so room is limited.
  14. That sounds like a good idea but doesn't a light fixture require air flow underneath it to dissipate heat? I would figure with all those lights you'd need to get rid of the heat, but I may be wrong because I am new to this.
  15. Sorry to hear that Boom. It always sucks losing an old friend.
  16. Unfortunately my tank doesn't have that support in the middle. So using two lights is out. It'll have to be one long light or something hung from above, but to be honest I'm not fan of hanging lights.
  17. I can't tell you why that happened to your CO2 but I just wanted to pass on my condolences for your loss. That really sucks.
  18. Hello and :welcome: to AA.
  19. Hello and :welcome: to AA. IMO you've found the best aquatic site on the net, you'll love it here. Lot's of DIY stuff, and everyone is always willing to answer any silly question you may have. Someone always answer mine.
  20. Nice stand and perfect timing too. I'm looking into doing a DIY stand for my 32G tank as well. Mine's 36" long but the concept is the same. I really like your idea of the false front. So, don't go too far dereks, I may have some questions for you when I get started and as I plow along. I know nothing about building with wood.
  21. Hello and :welcome: to AA. You'll find everyone here is more than willing to help you out in just about any way. I'm sure you'll find most people here very informative and experienced. And if you're a newbie like myself, don't be afraid to ask silly questions. I do all the time and no one has laughed too hard at me yet, well not that I know of.
  22. How would you know that two have paired up? And can you use that method to find a pair in the LFS. I mean they sometimes have a bunch together in a tank so is it possible to figure out which have paired up??
  23. Huge Hydra growth? Wow, good thing that didn't happen to me. I've only found maybe a dozen or so at most. Actually right now they're all gone, I'm hard pressed to find any. Strange thing though is that I didn't change my feeding habits. I still feed them as much as I did in the past. Could it have come from something else? My plants were in the tank for 3 weeks before I noticed any hydra, so I didn't thing they came from them, but I did purchase some fish 2 days prior to noticing the hydra. Is it possible they were attached to the fish?? I wouldn't think so but I don't know how else they could have started.
  24. That's a good point, Punman. When dosing, purifying, calculating WPG, and what-not, I guess a person should use the inner dimentions.
