i have 45 gallon tank that is currently not being used and i would like to make it a cichlid tank i have been reading about them and i would like to put in java fern, i would like to get an assortment of colorfull fish i would also like to keep all the fish 5" or less. what sort of background should i put on the tank, painted black? or some sort of rock picture background? as for gravel i would like to get black, but i have a lot of dark blue so that is probably what the color will be. i wouldn't mind having a few electric yellows, and i also like some of the peacock cichlids. any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated

i was in big al's today and they had some moss that had a scientific name. they said it was christmas moss. it did not really look like christmas moss but it could have been. it looks like they just got a plant shipment in. so for all of you guys that wants some, it might be there. they had not put a price out yet. you might want to find the scientific name before you go in, too make sure you are getting the right stuff.

all of my tanks have live plants in them, some tanks have high light. the highest is 4wpg it is a 46 gallon tank. on the high light tanks i have DIY c02. i have no fertilizer regime i dont fertilize at all. a few of the plants have root tabs under them, like the big sword plants. i even have red plants that are red and thriving. i read that hard water has lots of micro nutrients in it, i used to fertilize the recommended doses, iron, trace elements, comprehensive supplement. dosing with iron just got too expensive that was the main reason for stopping that. and since then i have not really noticed a difference. i do a weekly 30% water change and i almost never vacuum the gravel i dont know if that makes a difference or not. if i could find a cheaper method of fertilizing i would probably do it.

i have a planted 5 gallon tank with shrimp and an algae problem. i dosed it with 1ml of excel a few days ago and all the shrimp seem to be fine. there is still an algae problem! i do not add iron though.

i would go with windelov java fern and some java moss. probably flame moss. and some cryptocoryne wendtii, or other types of cryptocorynes. maybe some riccia instead of the cryptocoryne and small natural gravel. like 1/8th inch size gravel. if you will have some good lighting you could also go with pogostemon helfri.

when did you get them? can you see the eggs? can you see eyes in the eggs? you could try using reverse osmosis water to hatch them into. if you got the eggs recently they could have froze in the mail. and if you got them a while ago, they could have gone without water for too long.

Nice...I saw a really nice one at BA today in a display tank, not sure what it was, but I loved it. I can't wait to get my hands on some! That's awesome that yours have already started breeding! Did you end up getting your killifish off of ebay or a store? i got some garderni killifish from big al's on boxing day. they are breeding now. and i have 15 fry. i will still try and order some off of ebay in the spring when it warms up a little

I get mine off of ebay. From a seller called aquamagic. The same seller is also on aquabid.com. The price is about $6 per portion. I thought the portion was pretty sad looking. But it was still alive and I am sure will catch on eventually

i got the 4 portions of christmas moss today. they are pretty small and are in ok condition.

he ate the eggs within two hours of them spawning, but the next day the nest was completely gone

i had a pair of betta's in a 5 gallon tank for about 2 weeks and after trying twice to release the female they finally spawned and then the male proceeded to eat all of the eggs. he did put them in the nest or at least some of them, but he eventually ate them as well. :cuss:

So i gave up on the orange laser's but i am still trying to breed the skunk cory's and today i did a 90% water change and i put in straight cold tap water. While doing this it looked like they were going crazy and swimming into the glass and upside down. the glass started to condinsate. upon seeing this i turned on the hot water a little to bring up the temp a little. three of them were just in the corner upside down and the forth was not moving but was upright. about an hour has gone by and they are all upright. i hope they will be ok. i read the one post about putting the snow in the tank and he thought he killed them, and then they spawned. i guess i will see what happens now.

i downloaded Mozilla Firefox and it seems to be fine now. however my spell checker is gone and i cant remember where i got it from.

i will have some extra Christmas moss for sure.

i now have 6 fry. they keep hatching about 1 everyday or so. the killi's i have are mop spawners.i had two males and one female together but then took out one of the males and took out everything else out of the tank except the mop and heater and bubble filter. i am not sure what type golden wonders are. i have often thought about getting some golden wonders.

i finally got my reshipped plants. they were short one bunch of windelov fern and sent regular java fern instead of narrow leaf java fern. the Madagascar lace bulbs seem to be OK and the windelov fern looks fine but the regular java fern looks half dead.when i took it out of the mail box it was half frozen. i still have not received the second part of the shipment yet, the 4 bunches of Christmas moss

about a week ago i put a mop in a 5 gallon tank with a pair of gardneri killifish. i started getting about 2 eggs per day and put them into a plastic beer cup with some methylene blue and now i have one baby killi swimming around.

the blackberry remembers me, but it is my computer that does not. i have to sign in everythime i go on here, and that is like 4-5 times per night.

for some reason since i got my blackberry when i try to go onto AA i have to sign in. i click on the remember me even if i go on more than once a night i still have to login? any ideas.

Have to disagree with you there- Echinodorus flowers are bisexual. wouldn't they pollinate themselves then? did you let the flower completely dry up? once completely dry you should be able to crumble it and the seeds should be in there? last year i tried pollinating a pumpkin with a zucchini and vice versa. the pumpkin grew long then died! the zucchini was normal

there is male and female flowers. did you polinate the right flowers. with the male flowers?
