  1. i have 2 clown loaches in my 46 gallon tank. but i would like to get this tank back to a fry tank. i will probably get a couple more clown loaches to put in other bigger tanks, but i don't think i want loaches in this tank. i bought some 3 dojo loaches but they died within a week for some reason. they did not go into the tank with the ich guard. i know they are sensitive to ich and ich guard. they may have been stressed from the store. the person trying to catch them did not know what they were doing. i felt like saying give me that net. i should have not taken them after i seen how they were trying to catch them.
  2. have not feed anything for two weeks, there is nothing in the tank except snails and plants. there is no dead plant material. it is one of the cleanest tanks i have. and needs the fewest water changes. probably cause of the snails.
  3. here is a pic of the little things. they are almost smaller than baby brine shrimp eggs
  4. i wish. that is what i originally thought but they never got any bigger. they dont move like shrimp and they are smaller than shrimp eggs. i am not 100% sure but i dont think that they are. even with a magnifying glass i can not see any distinguishing features they just look like a dot. but move around. they are not snails either they move faster than the snails
  5. it was the tank that i was keeping fry in, then shrimp. i think the shrimp did not do well in this tank because there was virtually no algae.
  6. it is a 20 gallon planted tank that has been taken over by snails and some other tiny little thing. dont ask what i dont know, they are a little smaller than baby brine shrimp. they seem to swim around but mostly stay on a piece of wood. not really concerned about these. i figure they will be food for fish once i put some fish in. i want to know what i can do to get rid of these snails as fast as possible without killing the plants or the cycle. i have used coppersafe before in the past but it takes a month or more. i have been adding some ich guard not sure of the dose i just dump some in every once and a while. is there anything else that i could use that would get rid of the snails faster? there is no fish in this tank at this time.
  7. i thought about that will try regular water first . i think to buy the water it will be about $5 per gallon
  8. i did ask and this is what he said... " I changed out the water in the tank three consecutive days / used pure RO water that was probably near 60 degrees... actually left 2 buckets of the water outside here in Edmonton for an hour at a time / It was near -30C at the time here in the big E..... Immediately after freezing the poor fishers I treated them to FBW/FBS they were so happy they decided to reward me..." i don't have reverse osmosis
  9. I am attempting to breed my 5 orange laser Cory's. They have been in one of my community tanks for a while and a few looked like they plumped up a bit. Today i put them into a bare 10g tank with a few live plants thrown in there. i have bred bronze Cory's three times. i tried to breed 4 Corydoras arcuatus with no success, i think they may have all been males or too young. I was going to try to use Britta water when changing the water but will see what happens. when i do the daily 50% water changes i usually make it about 10 degrees colder than the tank water. there is a small aquaclear filter that i will use until they spawn then go to sponge filter. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to help them spawn
  10. How often are you priming it and why? I have only primed mine once when first setting it up. Only 3 or 4 times moved to a different tank, and also cleaned the hoses out a few times
  11. yes they have room for all that stuff at the back. and the best place in Calgary would probably be Pisces or Big Al's
  12. i have a Eheim pro 2 2026, 2 Fluval 404 , 1 Fluval 204, 1 Rena xp1. i think they all work great none of them being noticeable noisier than the other. all of them have been 2nd hand filters. i dislike the Rena the most because of the sponge it seems harder to clean, while priming it i always spill water behind the tank. Eheim pro 2 is the easiest to prime, and it is not too bad to clean either. the fluval i think is the easiest to clean,
  13. I am running about 5 ac filters all different sizes i use the sponge and then the large bio balls on top of that. for the small ones i only have 3 bio balls the biggest one i have i put 17 bio balls in. i put as many bio balls in that will fit.
  14. i swaped out both pairs of betta's in the breeding tanks. added the almond leaf. put the betta's in and today i just took out the divider on both tanks. they both had nests built in a day. hopefully everything goes well
  15. i did a test of Britta water from a jug and Britta water from the type that mounts on the faucet compared to tap water and this is what i found. Tap water GH 180 KH 100 PH 7.7 Britta jug water, filter is kinda old probably due for a change. GH 120 KH 50-60 PH 7.4 Britta from a faucet type with a filter newish filter GH 160 KH 100 PH 7.7 I am a little surprised that the faucet filter was almost the same as tap water, but the jug type seems to make a big difference. Does anyone know what these readings are with an R/O system
  16. i have had bronze Cory's spawn before and i tried using a razor blade, if there was a lot in one spot on the glass the razor worked fine. if they were scattered i just used my hands to pick them off. they normally stick to my fingers and they are fairly hard eggs. What method finally worked for you to get them to spawn?
  17. have two tanks setup waiting for male to build nest, the one has been in there almost a month and has not done anything at all. the other has built a tiny nest but not big enough yet and he has been in there for a week and a half. the first one i have tried several methods with no success and the second i have only tried the Styrofoam cup. i ordered almond leaves with my other plant order but that was the only thing that did not show up.
  18. my plants arrived today they were all frozen. i think the bulbs will be OK but the two types of java fern do not look to good. the leaves are a dark green almost see through but i put them in the tank and i will see what happens. also i ordered 3 Madagascar lace plants (bulbs) but i do not think that is what i got. the bulbs look different than normal. lace plant bulb that i have have are bell shaped and the ones that i just got are round ish.
  19. i have ordered plants twice of ebay from Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia and they have arrived with no problems and they were cheap. I also just ordered for a third time without thinking about the cold weather. hope everything goes well!
  20. i cant figure out how to change my user name. nothing serious i want to change it to Fleshgear from flshgear. people keep thinking my name is fishgear. not a big deal but just wondering? Thanks fleshgear
  21. i have 6 rams and 3 angels 2 large female bettas in with guppies in a heavily planted 45 gallon tank they seem to get along fairly well
  22. no i have no killifish, but i would like to get some. i do not want to pay $30 per fish. i was thinking about getting some golden wonders from petsmart, i think that is what they are called. all of my tanks are community tanks. starting to get some semi aggressive fish like angels and German blue, gold rams, and some female Betta's in the tanks. the tanks are all planted with drift wood. i do have some peet moss for breeding Betta's.
