  1. I've had a pair for several months now and they have stayed the same sex. The "female" has become larger and is almost always pregnant; releasing a clutch of eggs every 2 weeks or so. At night you'll see the babies swimming around in groups, but from what I've read they are very difficult to raise and just end up as a little snack.
  2. I use the exact same stuff in my reef aquarium. Wal-Mart right? I heard of people using air conditioner or humidifier foam too (can't remember which one it is) but I've never been able to get mroe details on that...

You might want to check this thread too: http://www.canreef.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19054 This guy whent through alot of experimentation before fixing his so you're in for some trial and error. Some pictures of your setup might help us figure things out...
  4. Until the photo albums are put into the system, you can host your images off: http://imageshack.us/ It's user friendly especially for forum users and it generates different types of links that may be of use (thumbnailing, image embedding in a post or webpage, etc.) embedded: thumbnail: direct link: http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/7366/hitctrla0qb.jpg It's also free, no quotas or anything but batch uploads are not free... meaning that you have to load them one by one. You don't have to register to use it, but it's easier to manage the photos that you have uploaded to umageshack otherwise you have to keep track of all the links that have been generated.
  5. Went to home depot and saw that pink insulation foam. Good stuff but not wide enough . I need a 72"x26" piece and all I can find is this white "rigid foam" from Totem. (As far as I can tell it is not styrofoam and doesn't compress easily). Do you think this stuff will do? I've only had tanks with floating bottoms before so I'm not sure...
  6. Can you have used carbon as a substrate? Just crush it until you have the desired particle size. I have no idea if this would have any adverse effects...
  7. Wondering what types of foam people are using to put their aquariums on. I'm getting a 180 gallon soon and need the proper foam to put it on. All I know is that "rigid" foam is what I should be looking for, but is 1/2 inch ok? Where can I buy it in larger widths? (tank is > 24" wide)
  8. Some people have used Varathane - a water based sealant with some success. You have to completely dry out the wood (could take several weeks) before completely sealing it. I'm not sure if this would be harmful to plecos though as they like to rasp on driftwood for roughage.
  9. Does anyone know where I can buy this type of glass in Calgary? Pricing? It's basically glass but with improved clarity much like acrylic. Thanks.
  10. I am also looking for someone to build a custom aquarium and stand as well. Anyone?
